Paul Mross
Paul Mross (Paweł Mróz) (23 January 1910, in Bismarckhütte (now Chorzów) – 17 January 1991, in Düsseldorf) was a Polish–German chess master. Biography Born in Bismarckhütte (now Chorzów), Upper Silesia, he won the Silesian Chess Championship in 1929, and played for Silesia at second board in the 1st Polish Team Championship at Królewska Huta (Königshütte) 1929 (the Warsaw team won). In early 1930s, he moved to Berlin. In 1935, he tied for 3rd-4th in Swinemünde. He played in Berlin championships; tied for 7-8th in 1936, and tied for 4-6th in 1938 (both won by Kurt Richter). In Spring 1939, he took 2nd, behind Franz Mölbitz, at ''Café Victoria'' in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Chorzów
Chorzów ( ; ; german: link=no, Königshütte ; szl, Chorzōw) is a city in the Silesia region of southern Poland, near Katowice. Chorzów is one of the central cities of the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Union – a metropolis with a population of 2 million. Klaus Darga
Klaus Viktor Darga (born 24 February 1934) is a German chess grandmaster. Chess career In 1951, Darga became German Junior Champion after winning the national under-20 championship. He also proved his strength as a young chess player by sharing first place in the World Junior Championship of 1953, with Oscar Panno of Argentina who was awarded the title on tiebreak. He won the West German Chess Championship in 1955 and 1961. He came second in the Gijón international tournament in 1956.His best performance is held to be the 1967 Winnipeg tournament, where he also tied for first place with Bent Larsen, whom he beat, ahead of joint Boris Spassky and Paul Keres. He was awarded the title of International Master in 1957, and Grandmaster in 1964. He played for West Germany in ten Olympiads between 1954 and 1978, and also served as coach of the German national team. German Chess Championship
The German Chess Championship has been played since 1861, and determines the national champion. Prior to 1880, three different federations organized chess activities in Germany: the ''Westdeutscher Schachbund'' (WDSB), the ''Norddeutscher Schachbund'' (NDSB) and the ''Mitteldeutscher Schachbund'' (MDSB). Each one organized its own championship. In 1880, the nationwide ''Deutscher Schachbund'' was founded, so afterwards only one German championship was played. Starting from 1933, the Nazi Party took control of all social activities and until 1943 all chess championships were organized by the ''Großdeutscher Schachbund''. After the end of World War II, separate championships were played in the occupied zones.
