Paul 'The Axeman' Martin was a DJ on the New Zealand rock music radio station called The Rock (New Zealand), The Rock. It began in Hamilton, New Zealand, Hamilton and later moved to Auckland. Over the years the station has been networked around New Zealand. The station broadcasts rock music from "the 1980s in music, '80s, 1990s in music, '90s and 2000s in music, now". Career Martin was one of The Rock (New Zealand), The Rock's longest serving jocks, presenting, programming and producing his weekly metal show The Axe Attack on the Rock since 1992. He has interviewed Slayer, Metallica, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Megadeth, Anthrax (American band), Anthrax, Suicidal Tendencies, Lita Ford, Deftones, Rob Halford, Steve Vai and Max Cavalera. He writes for New Zealand music Rip It Up (magazine), ''Rip It Up'' magazine as well as Australia's Tattoos DownUnder. The Axe Attack
The Rock is a New Zealand mainstream rock music radio station. The station targets 25–44 with a male skew, but has a significant female fan base. It plays rock music and showcases up-and-coming New Zealand bands. The Rock has unpredictable features and countdowns, most notably The Rock 2000 (formerly The Rock 1500, 1000 & 500), an annual music countdown based entirely on songs voted for by their rock listeners. Some of its broadcasts have been controversial, and the Broadcasting Standards Authority has upheld many complaints against it. History The Rock began broadcasting on 1 December 1991 in Hamilton, New Zealand, Hamilton as ''The Rock 93FM''. The very first ever song to air on The Rock was Are You Ready (AC/DC song), Are You Ready? by AC/DC.
