Paul Kuhn (tenor)
Paul Kuhn (12 September 1874, Silesia – 20 June 1966, New York City) was a German operatic tenor who specialized in the buffo repertoire. He studied singing in Breslau and performed at important opera houses and festivals in Germany and Austria like the Bavarian State Opera, the Bayreuth Festival, the Darmstadt Opera, and the Salzburg Festival. He notably portrayed the role of Mateo in the world premiere of Erich Wolfgang Korngold's ''Violanta'' at the National Theatre Munich in 1916. In 1917, he created the role of Bernardo Novagerio in the premiere of Hans Pfitzner's ''Palestrina'' at the Prinzregententheater The Prinzregententheater, or, as it was called in its first decades, the Prinz-Regenten-Theater, in English the Prince Regent Theatre, is a concert hall and opera house on Prinzregentenplatz in the Bavarian capital of Munich, Germany. Paul Kuhn (band Leader)
Paul Kuhn (12 March 1928 – 23 September 2013) was a German jazz musician, band leader, singer and pianist. He was the band leader of the SFB Big Band, the orchestra of the Sender Freies Berlin, the TV-Station of West Berlin, part of ARD. He was the conductor of the German entry in the 1972 Eurovision Song Contest. Life Kuhn was born the son of a croupier in Wiesbaden. In 1936, at the age of 8, he had a public gig at the 'Funkausstellung' in Berlin, playing the accordion. Some years later, he discovered jazz music (which was frowned upon during the Nazi years, 1933–1945). In 1944, he was in Paris and had some gigs to entertain soldiers of the Wehrmacht, who still occupied Paris. After V-Day (8 May 1945), the American Forces formed an occupation zone in parts of Germany, amongst them the region around Frankfurt. Kuhn was hired by AFN ( American Forces Network), he was live on radio almost every day, alone or with his band. He adopted the style and sound of Glenn Miller. ... Paul Kuën
Paul Kuën (8 April 1910 – April 1997) was a German operatic tenor known for character roles. One example among many such portrayals would be Mime in Wagner's ''Der Ring des Nibelungen''. Kuën was born at Sulzberg, Oberallgäu. He had originally wanted to be an organ-builder, but then studied singing with Heinrich Knote and Adalbert Ebner in Munich. He made his stage debut at the State Theatre in Konstanz in 1933 and went on to sing in many European opera houses, including Munich State Opera from 1946,Opera. June 1954, Bayreuth where he sang from 1951–1957, Salzburg, the Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, and London's Royal Opera House. He made his debut at the New York Metropolitan Opera on 16 December 1961 as Mime in ''Das Rheingold''. He also sang Mime in the Met's 1962 ''Siegfried'' and the multiple roles of Andrès, Cochenille, Pitichinaccio, and Frantz in the company's 1962 production of ''The Tales of Hoffmann''.
