Paul Julian (artist)
Paul Hull Husted (June 25, 1914 – September 5, 1995), better known as Paul Julian, was an American background animator, sound effects artist and voice actor for Warner Bros. Cartoons. He worked on ''Looney Tunes'' short films, primarily on director Friz Freleng's Sylvester and Tweety Bird shorts. During his time at Warner, Julian also provided the vocal effects of the Road Runner. His warm and tightly-cropped urban scenes were also featured early in his career in the Bugs Bunny film ''Baseball Bugs'' (1946), and in the crime syndicate-themed Daffy Duck film ''Golden Yeggs'' (1950). Julian also created New Deal murals in California. Julian died in Van Nuys, California at the age of 81. Life and career Julian was born on June 25, 1914 in Illinois. ''Fast and Furry-ous'' is a 1949 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon, directed by Chuck Jones and written by Michael Maltese. The short was released on September 17, 1949, and stars Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner, in their debut. This was the debut of the Coyote/Road Runner pairing and set the template for the series, in which Wile E. Coyote (here given the mock genus/species name in faux-Latin ''Carnivorous Vulgaris'') tries to catch the Road Runner (''Accelleratii Incredibus'') through many traps, plans and products. In this first cartoon, not all of the products are yet made by ACME. The title is a play on the expression "fast and furious". Michael Barrier (historian)
Michael J. Barrier (born June 15, 1940) is an American animation historian. Work Barrier was the founder and editor of ''Funnyworld'', the first magazine exclusively devoted to comics and animation. It began as a contribution to the CAPA-Alpha amateur press association. Beginning in 1970 it expanded to being a magazine of general circulation that eventually had a print run of several thousand before ceasing publication in the early 1980s. Barrier was also an early champion of the work of comic book artist Carl Barks, in a period when comic book fandom was mostly devoted to the celebration of superheroes and tended to denigrate talking animal comics. Barrier serialized a bibliography of Barks' work in ''Funnyworld'' and in 1968 contributed an extensive essay analyzing Barks' work to the seventh issue of the Don and Maggie Thompsons' pioneering fanzine ''Comic Art''. The Fullerton Post Office, ''better known as the Commonwealth Station'', was built in 1939 by the Works Progress Administration, in Fullerton, Orange County, Southern California. Construction costs were $56,000 and took less than seven months to complete. The building was dedicated on November 1, 1938. It is a one-story, rectangular structure at the south east corner of the intersection of S. Pomona Ave. and E. Commonwealth Ave. Built on a raised platform, the post office has six steps at the public entrance. Inside, over the door of the superintendant's office, is a mural of Fullerton High School students picking oranges, by Paul Julian. In the back, there is a loading dock for mail trucks. The Works Progress Administration (WPA; renamed in 1939 as the Work Projects Administration) was an American New Deal agency that employed millions of jobseekers (mostly men who were not formally educated) to carry out public works projects, including the construction of public buildings and roads. Tweety is a yellow canary in the Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' and ''Merrie Melodies'' series of animated cartoons. The name "Tweety" is a play on words, as it originally meant "sweetie", along with "tweet" being an English onomatopoeia for the sounds of birds.
