Paul II Cheikho
Mar Paul II Cheikho † ( syr, ܦܘܠܘܣ ܬܪܝܢܐ ܫܝܟܘ, Arabic: بولس الثاني شيخو) (November 19, 1906–April 13, 1989) was the patriarch of the Chaldean Catholic Church from 1958 until his death in 1989. Life An ethniChaldean he was born on November 19, 1906 in Alqosh and was ordained a priest on February 16, 1930. On May 4, 1947 he was ordained Bishop of Akra, Iraq, at the age of 40, by the Archbishop of Kirkuk Hormisdas Etienne Djibri. From 1957 until his appointment as Patriarch of Babylon of the Chaldeans in 1958 Paul Cheikho served as bishop of Aleppo, Syria. He was the Patriarch of the Chaldean Church from 1958 until his death on April 13, 1989. List Of Chaldean Catholic Patriarchs Of Babylon
This is a list of the Chaldean Catholicoi-Patriarchs of Baghdad, formerly Babylon, the leaders of the Chaldean Catholic Church and one of the Patriarchs of the east of the Catholic Church starting from 1553 following the schism of 1552 which caused a break in the Church of the East, which later led to the founding of the Chaldean Catholic Church. This list continues from the list of patriarchs of the Church of the East that traces itself back from the Church founded in Mesopotamia in the 1st century and which became known as the Church of the East. Biblical Aramaic is closely related to Syriac Aramaic, which until recently was called Chaldaic or Chaldee, and East Syrian Christians, whose liturgical language was this dialect of Aramaic, were called Chaldeans, as an ethnic, not a religious term.
