Paul Henry Oehser
Paul Henry Oehser (27 March 1904, Cherry Creek, New York – 4 December 1996, Boone, North Carolina) was a writer of three books and an editor of scientific publications. Oehser graduated in 1925 from Greenville College in Illinois. Soon after graduation he moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the Bureau of Biological Survey as an assistant scientific editor. Beginning in 1931 he was an editor working for the Smithsonian Institution and in 1950 became director of the Institution's Editorial and Publications Division. From 1951 to 1966 he continued as director but also served as the Smithsonian Institution's public relations officer. He retired from the Institution in 1966 and then worked from 1966 to 1975 for the National Geographic Society as an editor of scientific reports. He was on the Wilderness Society's Governing Council. Cherry Creek, New York
Cherry Creek is a town in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. The population was 1,036 at the 2020 census. The name is derived from that of a small stream that flows through the town amid many cherry trees. Cherry Creek is situated on the east border of the county, northeast of Jamestown. There is also a hamlet named Cherry Creek located within the town. History The community was first settled ''circa'' 1815, and the town of Cherry Creek was formed in 1829 from part of the town of Ellington. The settlement got its name from a cherry tree planted by Holland Land Company surveyor Joshua Bentley to mark the center of the new town. The village, which was incorporated in 1893, voted on February 2, 2017 to dissolve into the surrounding town. Sidney Dillon Ripley
Sidney Dillon Ripley II (September 20, 1913 – March 12, 2001) was an American ornithologist and wildlife conservationist. He served as secretary of the Smithsonian Institution for 20 years, from 1964 to 1984, leading the institution through its period of greatest growth and expansion. For his leadership at the Smithsonian, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Ronald Reagan in 1985. Boone, North Carolina
Boone is a town in and the county seat of Watauga County, North Carolina, United States. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, Boone is the home of Appalachian State University and the headquarters for the disaster and medical relief organization Samaritan's Purse.
