Paul Hammond (musician)
Paul Hammond (1952–1992) was an English rock drummer who was a member of the progressive rock band Atomic Rooster and the hard rock band Hard Stuff during the 1970s. Career Born in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, Hammond began playing drums aged 12, and joined his first band, The Farm, after winning a competition in the '' Melody Maker'' music newspaper.Talevski, Nick – "Knocking on Heaven's Door: Rock Obituaries", Omnibus Press, 2006, p.242. Marlow, Buckinghamshire
Marlow (; historically Great Marlow or Chipping Marlow) is a town and civil parish within the Unitary Authority of Buckinghamshire, England. It is located on the River Thames, south-southwest of High Wycombe, west-northwest of Maidenhead and west of central London. Name The name is recorded in 1015 as ''Mere lafan'', meaning "Land left after the draining of a pond" in Old English. From Norman times the manor, parish, and later borough were formally known as Great Marlow, distinguishing them from Little Marlow. The ancient parish was large, including rural areas north and west of the town. John Du Cann
John William Cann (2 June 1946 – 21 September 2011), later known by his stage name John Du Cann, was an English guitarist primarily known through his work in the 1970s band Atomic Rooster. Life and career His early bands included the Wiltshire-based The Sonics (not to be confused with the 1960s US band of the same name) and London-based The Attack, which released "Hi Ho Silver Lining" a few days prior to Jeff Beck. He went on to lead a psychedelic, progressive, hard rock band called Andromeda, before being asked to join Atomic Rooster, when bass player and vocalist Nick Graham left the band. Cann overdubbed guitar parts and replaced Graham's vocals on three tracks of their 1970 self-titled debut album, and a second pressing featuring the overdubbed tracks was soon issued, though without crediting him on the sleeve. Bolex Dementia
''Bolex Dementia'' is the second and final album by the 1970s British rock band Hard Stuff. During the recording of the album, two members of the band ( John Cann and Paul Hammond), were injured in a serious car accident in Belgium. Cann had been sitting in the front passenger seat of their Ford Zodiac and suffered an injured back and broken ribs, while Hammond, who had been asleep in the back seat, broke both his legs. The band managed to finish recording ''Bolex Dementia'', but Cann later stated, "When I listen to it, it sounds a little patchy and not how we intended it to be... ''Bulletproof'' is the first album by the 1970s British rock band Hard Stuff. It was released on Purple Records, the Deep Purple-related record label. It also featured vocalist Harry Shaw, formerly of Curiosity Shoppe (who recorded one single on Dream), but he had left the band by the time of its release and was uncredited. ''Headline News'' is the seventh studio album by British rock band Atomic Rooster. It has been released on CD several times: firstly in 1994 on Voiceprint, secondly in 1997 on Blueprint and in 2002 on Eagle. In 2004 it was repackaged by Dutch label MCP as ''Future Shock''. In addition, in 2005 the German Ambitions/Membran International label packaged it alongside '' The First Ten Explosive Years'' as a two-disc set entitled ''Rebel with a Clause''. All CD issues feature two bonus tracks not included on the original LP. Vincent Crane's wife, Jean, contributes lyrics to three tracks, including "Watch Out!/Reaching Out", an adaptation of the '' Atomic Rooster'' album cut. The album was recorded at the Cranes' home in Maida Vale, with the help of a mobile studio parked outside, and the sessions engineered by Tom Newman, remembered for his production work on Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells album. Wang Chung (band)
Wang Chung are an English new wave band, formed in London in 1980 by Nick Feldman, Jack Hues and Darren Costin. The name Wang Chung is Chinese (, ), meaning "yellow bell" in English, and is the first note in the Chinese classical music scale. The band found their greatest success in the US, with five top 40 hits there, all charting between 1983 and 1987, including "Dance Hall Days" (No. 16 in 1984), "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" (No. 2 in 1986) and " Let's Go!" Nicholas Laurence Feldman (born 1 May 1955) is an English musician best known for forming the British new wave band Wang Chung in 1980. Feldman was half of the duo Promised Land, which also featured Jon Moss of Culture Club. He was a founding investor in Interactive Ideas and has worked for Warner Brothers, Sony Music and SonyBMG. Biography Feldman was raised Jewish. He attended Highgate School and the University of Liverpool, originally studying psychology; however, his interest in the subject waned before graduation. After leaving the university he joined DJM Live Music Agency, signing Adam and the Ants. Before university, Feldman was involved in music. He left DJM to become a musician and form a band. Jeremy Allan Ryder, better known as Jack Hues, (born 10 December 1954) is an English singer, songwriter, and musician, who is best known for forming and fronting the 1980s English new wave band, Wang Chung. Hues was also a member of the one-off band Strictly Inc. Life and career Early life Jack Hues was born on 10 December 1954 in Gillingham, Kent, England, the oldest of four children of Robina (née Pratt) and Allan Sidney Ryder. He was an avid listener to artists such as the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix before becoming interested in progressive rock groups like Yes and Genesis. Hues then found a passion in classical music, and attended London's Goldsmiths College to study music. After three years, he went on to attend the Royal College of Music. Third Ear Band
Third Ear Band were a British musical group formed in London during the mid-1960s. Their line-up initially consisted of violin, cello, oboe and percussion. Most of their performances were instrumental and partly improvised. Their records for the Harvest label, ''Alchemy'' and ''Third Ear Band'', achieved some popularity, after which they found some success creating soundtrack music for films. History Dave Tomlin, who had initiated free-form jazz sessions at the London Free School, began similar sessions at the UFO Club by assembling members of the audience, usually at 4am, into a free-form group playing for the, by then, exhausted dancers. Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel are a British glam rock band from the early 1970s from London. Their music covers a range of styles from pop to progressive rock. Over the years they have had five albums in the UK Albums Chart and twelve singles in the UK Singles Chart. John Frederick "Johnny" Gustafson (8 August 1942 – 12 September 2014) was an English bass guitar player and singer, who had a lengthy recording and live performance career. During his career, he was a member of the bands The Big Three (English band), The Big Three, Ian Gillan Band, Roxy Music and his own group, Quatermass (band), Quatermass, among others.
