Paul Fry (speedway Rider)
Paul David Fry (25 October 1964 – 1 April 2010) was a British speedway rider. Fry made his debut with the Cradley Heathens in 1984 and rode for a number of clubs during his career. He won several team trophies including the British League Knockout Cup with Cradley Heath in 1986 and 1987 and the Premier League Knockout Cup with the Swindon Robins in 2000. In 2007 he was awarded a testimonial meeting at Somerset's Oak Tree Arena. He spent his final season in 2009 with Premier league team Newport Wasps and briefly doubled-up with the Poole Pirates. Fry died at his home in March 2010 aged 45. The cause of death has not been disclosed. Ledbury
Ledbury is a market town and civil parish in the county of Herefordshire, England, lying east of Hereford, and west of the Malvern Hills. Premier League KO Cup
The Premier League Knockout Cup was a motorcycle speedway Knockout Cup competition in the United Kingdom between 1995 and 2016, governed by the Speedway Control Bureau (SCB). History The teams from the Premier League, the top tier of league racing between 1995 and 1996 competed in the competition before they switched to the Elite League Knockout Cup. The second tier teams then exclusively competed in the competition from 1997 until 2016. Similar competitions were staged between teams in the two divisions of the British League. The last winners of the Knockout Cup were the Glasgow Tigers who gained a 104–76 aggregate victory over the Newcastle Diamonds over two legs. Mühldorf am Inn (Central Bavarian: ''Muihdorf am Inn'') is a town in Bavaria, Germany, and the capital of the district Mühldorf on the river Inn. It is located at , and had a population of about 17,808 in 2005. History During the Middle Ages, the town and castle were an alod of the Luchen family. On 28 October 1287, Rapoto Luchen announced that he had entered an agreement with Archbishop Rudolph of Salzburg to hand over the alod, become the archbishop's ministerialis, and thereafter run the lands as a fief of the Prince-Archbishops of Salzburg. On 28 September 1322, the decisive Battle of Mühldorf was fought here between Bavaria and Salzburg. Before the battle, the Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg knighted several of the burghers of the town. Poole Pirates
Poole Pirates (also known as Poole Speedway) are a motorcycle speedway team based in Poole, England, competing in the SGB Championship. The club have been the champions of the United Kingdom on ten occasions. Poole Speedway is promoted by local businessman Matt Ford and son Danny Ford, who took over promoting rights of the club in 1998. The team is managed by past rider and former Great Britain team manager Neil Middleditch. Wimborne Road Stadium has been home to the club since it was founded in 1948. In August 2004, Poole hosted the Speedway World Cup final, which was won by Sweden. Stadium Poole Stadium (also known as Wimborne Road Stadium), has been the Pirates' home track since the club was created in 1948. Oak Tree Arena
The Oaktree Arena was a Motorcycle speedway, speedway racing track located near Highbridge, Somerset, Highbridge, Somerset, England, and is built alongside the M5 motorway. The track, which was constructed by Australian rider Glyn Taylor, is in length, with banking around the edge for spectators. There is also a restaurant which can be hired for weddings and events. It is also used for property auctions, and car boot sales. The site also hosts a golf driving range. Speedway Motorcycle speedway, Speedway was introduced in 2000. The team were founded by promoter Andy Hewlett and named the Somerset Rebels, entering the Conference League (speedway), Conference League. A testimonial match or testimonial game, often referred to simply as a testimonial, is a practice in some sports, particularly in association football in the United Kingdom and South America, where a club has a match to honour a player for service to the club. These matches are always non-competitive. British Speedway Promoters' Association
The British Speedway Promoters Limited (BSPL) organises the domestic motorcycle speedway competitions in the United Kingdom. They are also responsible for the promotion and running of the FIM meetings staged in Britain. Each club has a promoter in the association, although promotions under three years of membership do not have a vote. A ''Management Committee'' is elected at the Annual General Meeting, and this committee is responsible for the day-to-day running of British speedway. All the promoters meet periodically to discuss matters of importance, usually rule changes.
