Paul Dahdah
Paul Dahdah, OCD (born 8 January 1941) is a former bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Beirut. Biography Dahdah was born in Zgharta, Lebanon. He joined the Discalced Carmelites and was ordained to priesthood on 17 April 1966. Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Baghdad on 30 May 1983. He received his episcopal consecration of the Apostolic Nuncio in Lebanon, Luciano Angeloni, on 21 August of the same year. His co-consecrators were Raphael I Bidawid, Chaldean Catholic Patriarch of Babylon and Paul Bassim, OCD, Vicar Apostolic Emeritus of Beirut. On 30 July 1999 Dahdah was appointed Vicar Apostolic of Beirut and Titular Bishop of Arae in Numidia. Discalced Carmelites
The Discalced Carmelites, known officially as the Order of the Discalced Carmelites of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel ( la, Ordo Fratrum Carmelitarum Discalceatorum Beatae Mariae Virginis de Monte Carmelo) or the Order of Discalced Carmelites ( la, Ordo Carmelitarum Discalceatorum, links=no; abbrev.: OCD), is a Catholic mendicant order with roots in the eremitic tradition of the Desert Fathers and Mothers. Discalced Carmelite Bishops
A discalced congregation is a religious congregation that goes barefoot or wears sandals. These congregations are often distinguished on this account from other branches of the same order. The custom of going unshod was introduced into the West by St Francis of Assisi for men and by St Clare of Assisi for women. The word is derived from the Latin ''discalceātus'', from ''dis'' (apart, away) + ''calceātus'' (shod), from ''calceāre'' (to provide with shoes), from ''calceus'' (shoe), from ''calx'' (heel). Discalceation Discalceation means "removal of footwear". St. Teresa of Ávila was one of a number of saints of the Roman Catholic Church who were "discalced" or shoeless. Paul Bassim, OCD, (14 November 1922 – 21 August 2012) was a Lebanese bishop of the Catholic Church. Biography Bassim was born in Zgharta, Lebanon and as a young man became a friar of the Discalced Carmelites. He was ordained a Roman Catholic priest on 29 June 1946. Bassim was appointed Vicar Apostolic of the Apostolic Vicariate of Beirut for which he was appointed as the titular bishop of Laodicea ad Libanum on 8 September 1974, and consecrated on 23 November 1974, by Archbishop Alfredo Bruniera. He would hold the position of Vicar Apostolic until his retirement on 30 July 1999.
