Paul Crosby (criminal)
Paul Crosby is an Irish criminal. Attempted murder trial In February 2019 he went on trial accused of attempted murder, kidnapping and intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm. He pleaded not guilty on all counts. During the trial the man who he was alleged to have attacked admitted to lying to Gardaí and the jury in a previous trial. The judge said that the real issue was whether Crosby was "present and participated in the injuries" as claimed by Boyle and that the jury would have to evaluate "the contradictions" of the testimony of Boyle. The jury took 43 minutes to find Crosby not guilty on all charges. Car arson On 22 April 2020 he was jailed for four and a half years after pleading guilty to the arson of a stolen Volkswagen Polo. The car, with a 132 registration, was stolen by Crosby and two others from the car park of an industrial estate on the Ballymakenny Road, Drogheda. Garda Emergency Response Unit
The Emergency Response Unit (ERU) ( ga, Aonad Práinnfhreagartha) is the police tactical unit of the ''Garda Síochána'', Ireland's national police and security service. The unit was a section of the forces' Special Detective Unit (SDU), under the Crime and Security Branch (CSB) until 2017, when the Special Tactics and Operational Command was created to take over its operational duties alongside Armed Support Units. The Garda ERU provides the highest tier of firearms response to Irish law enforcement, specialising in weapons tactics, counter-terrorism, execution of high-risk missions, crisis negotiation, hostage rescue and close protection, among other roles. The unit was formed in 1977 as the "Special Task Force" to assist ordinary members of the force in extraordinary situations. Mountjoy Prison
Mountjoy Prison ( ga, Príosún Mhuinseo), founded as Mountjoy Gaol and nicknamed ''The Joy'', is a medium security men's prison located in Phibsborough in the centre of Dublin, Ireland. The current prison Governor is Edward Mullins. History Mountjoy was designed by Captain Joshua Jebb of the Royal Engineers and opened in 1850. It was based on the design of London's Pentonville Prison also designed by Jebb. Originally intended as the first stop for men sentenced to transportation, they would spend a period in separate confinement before being transferred to Spike Island and transported from there to Van Diemen's Land. A total of 46 prisoners (including one woman, Annie Walsh) were executed within the walls of the prison, prior to the abolition of capital punishment.
