Paul Carter (entrepreneur)
Paul Carter (1888–1979) was an American businessman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist in Chattanooga, Tennessee and nearby Lookout Mountain who, along with his father James Inman Carter and brother Garnet Carter (who also created Rock City and invented miniature golf), developed most of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee and Lookout Mountain, Georgia. Through marriage to his second wife, Ann Lupton Carter, Paul became the President over a large Coca-Cola Bottling Company Coca-Cola Consolidated, Inc., headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, is the largest independent Coca-Cola bottler in the United States. John Garnet Carter (Feb. 9, 1883, in Sweetwater, Tennessee – July 21, 1954) was an American inventor and entrepreneur who is considered one of the fathers of miniature golf. In 1927, Carter was the first to patent a version of the game which he called "Tom Thumb Golf". Rock City is a tourist attraction on Lookout Mountain in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. Opened in , the attraction gained prominence after owners Garnet and Frieda Carter hired Clark Byers in 1935 to paint "See Rock City" barn advertisements throughout the Southeast and Midwest United States; Byers painted over 900 barn roofs and walls, in 19 states, by 1969.
