Paul Byrne (footballer Born 1986)
Paul Byrne (born 19 May 1986, in Dublin), is an Irish footballer who last played as a forward for League of Ireland Premier Division club Shelbourne. Career UCD Byrne began his League of Ireland career with UCD on a sports scholarship in 2004 following his spell in schoolboy football with Cherry Orchard. After making an impressive impact with UCD's Under 21 side, Byrne was promoted to UCD's first team towards the end of their 2004 First Division campaign where he scored 3 goals in 4 appearances helping UCD to promotion. A series of injuries restricted Byrne to limited appearances for UCD over the 2005 and 2006 seasons but an injury-free run in 2007 saw Byrne score 7 goals in all competitions for the Students. In his spell with UCD, Byrne was one of a select few who won the Under-21 league championship on three occasions in 2004, 2005 and 2007. 2009–10 Setanta Sports Cup
The 2009–10 Setanta Sports Cup was the 5th staging of the cross-border Setanta Sports Cup competition - which featured football clubs from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. It commenced on August 28, 2009, and the final was played on May 15, 2010, with Bohemians defeating St Patrick's Athletic 1–0 to claim their first Setanta Cup triumph. On June 22, 2009, the draw for the competition was postponed because of the financial troubles of organizer Setanta Sports. However, on July 19, 2009, it was confirmed that the competition would be going ahead as planned, and the draw was made at FAI headquarters in Abbotstown, Dublin, on July 28. The Leinster Senior Cup is an association football cup competition organized by the Leinster Football Association. It is currently contested by LFA affiliated League of Ireland clubs, Leinster Senior League Senior Division clubs and invited teams from the various LFA affiliated junior leagues. Setanta Sports Cup
The Setanta Sports Cup was a club football competition featuring teams from both football associations on the island of Ireland. Inaugurated in 2005, it was a cross-border competition between clubs in the League of Ireland from the Republic of Ireland and the NIFL Premiership from Northern Ireland. The cup was sponsored by Setanta Sports, the Irish subscription sports television network. The competition was discontinued after the 2014 edition.
