	Paul Burns (footballer) Paul Burns (born 18 May 1984) is a Scottish former professional association footballer who played primarily as a right midfielder. During his career, Burns played in two spells for Queen of the South punctuated with a season at Dunfermline Athletic. His most prominent moment was scoring for Queens in their 4-3 Scottish Cup semi final victory over Aberdeen in 2008. He left the professional ranks in 2015 at the age of 31 to take a career outside football. 	Paul Burns (judge) Paul Burns is an Irish lawyer who has been a judge of the High Court of Ireland since March 2020. He previously practised as a barrister with a focus on criminal trials. Early life Burns attended Trinity College Dublin where he obtained a bachelor's degree in legal science in 1984 and a Master of Letters in law in 1987. Legal career He became a barrister in 1986 and became a senior counsel in 2004. His practice was predominantly focused on criminal law, appearing for both accused persons and the Director of Public Prosecutions. Among the trials he has been involved with included serious offences of murder, sexual offences and drug offences. He has also acted in actions involving judicial review, constitutional law, personal injuries and defamation. 	Pauline Powell Burns Pauline Powell Burns (1872–1912) was an American painter and pianist. She was the first African-American artist to exhibit paintings in California in 1890. Powell was also a pianist who gave recitals around the San Francisco Bay Area. Family history Pauline Powell was born in 1872 in Oakland, California, to Josephine Turner and her husband, train porter William W. Powell. Her great-grandfather was blacksmith Edith Hern Fossett#Marriage and children, Joseph Fossett, one of Thomas Jefferson's slaves who was freed by the terms of his will in 1826. Her grandmother Isabella Fossett was also a slave and as a child was sold away from Monticello in 1827 as part of a settlement of estate debts, later escaping to Boston. Powell's parents moved to Oakland, where their daughter Pauline was born in 1872, the year her grandmother Isabella died. On October 11, 1893, she married Edward E. Burns; they had no children.
