Paul Barker
Paul Gordon Barker (born February 8, 1959), also referred to as Hermes Pan, is the former bass guitarist, producer and engineer of the industrial metal band Ministry from 1986 to 2003. Prior to Ministry, Barker provided bass for the Seattle post-punk ensemble The Blackouts alongside future Ministry drummer Bill Rieflin and his brother, one-time Ministry touring keyboardist/saxophonist Roland Barker, from 1979 until 1985. Ministry Beginning as touring bassist for Ministry's 1986 '' Twitch'' tour, Barker collaborated with frontman Al Jourgensen and collectively released ''The Land of Rape and Honey'' in 1988. Wax Trax!
Wax Trax! Records is an American independent record label based in Chicago. It began as a record shop in Denver, Colorado, opened by life partners Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher, who sold the store in 1978 and moved to Chicago. In November of that year, they opened a store under the same name in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. During the 1980s and 1990s, the accompanying record label became a presence on the new wave and punk rock scenes in the city, and an outlet for European bands. The label was purchased in 1992 by TVT Records and was discontinued in 2001. In 2014, it was re-established by Julia Nash, daughter of co-founder Jim Nash. Richard Giraldi of the ''Chicago Sun-Times'' wrote, "As important as Chess Records was to blues and soul music, Chicago's Wax Trax imprint was just as significant to the punk rock, new wave and industrial genres." Deadly Apples
Deadly Apples is a Canadian rock / industrial metal band based in Montreal, Quebec. The band consists of frontman / lyricist Alex Martel (vocals) and main composer Antoine Lamothe (drums), with live musicians joining them on stage. An early version of the project was formed in 2007 when Martel joined forces with Lamothe. During this initial period, the band released the ''Infected'' EP in 2008. They started work on their first full-length album ''Petty'' in 2010, which was mixed by Vance Powell, mastered by Bob Ludwig and features Munky from Korn as guest guitarist on the songs ''Further'' and ''Help''. The project then went on hiatus for several years while Martel and Lamothe focused on their concert promoter and film director careers, respectively. Puscifer
Puscifer () is an American rock group formed in Los Angeles by Maynard James Keenan, known as the lead singer of the bands Tool and A Perfect Circle. Initially, Keenan was the only permanent member, and as such he considered the project to be his "creative subconscious". Later, frequent collaborators Mat Mitchell and Carina Round became permanent members. Background Puscifer's original name was Umlaut, "a premiere improvisational hardcore band". The name "Puscifer" was first publicized as a fictional band in the first episode of ''Mr. Show'', including Keenan and Adam Jones as members. Pink Anvil
Pink Anvil was a duo consisting of former members of the group Ministry - Paul Barker and Max Brody. The pair formed during a time of personal turmoil in Ministry, which due to drug abuse and record label disagreements nearly ended the group. Upon an invitation from one Dave Palmer (of the jazz group Earl Harvin Trio), they performed an experimental set at a small rave in Austin, Texas on Halloween, 2001. The recorded set was later released as '' Halloween Party'' on Ipecac Recordings in 2003. Pink Anvil made another live appearance at the New Year's Eve Ipecac bash in San Francisco, California at Great American Music Hall. This show was also recorded and was released posthumously in 2014. Lead Into Gold
Lead into Gold is a side project of American industrial musician Paul Barker, best known as the former bassist for Ministry and the Hermes Pan half of the Luxa/Pan production team. Primarily a solo project by Barker, Lead into Gold featured occasional guest performances by his Ministry bandmates Al Jourgensen and Bill Rieflin as well as Stuart Zechman of Stabbing Westward. History In its first incarnation, Lead into Gold only released two 12 inch singles and one full-length studio LP. ''Idiot'' was the first release in 1988, followed by the ''Chicks & Speed: Futurism'' single and ''Age of Reason'' album, both released in 1990. The CD release of ''Chicks & Speed'' included the ''Idiot'' single in its entirety. Acid Horse
Acid Horse was a one-off collaborative side project between two industrial music pioneers, Ministry and Cabaret Voltaire. Only one single, "No Name, No Slogan", was released in 1989 on Wax Trax! Records. The band name is a combination of the slang terms for LSD (acid) and heroin (horse), as well as a play on the title of the then-popular acid house movement. As with many other Ministry side projects, such as PTP and the Revolting Cocks, the band member's identities are masked by pseudonyms. PTP (band)
The industrial band PTP (Programming the PsychoDrill) was a short-lived side project of Wax Trax! Records finest talent . The first PTP track, "Show Me Your Spine," was recorded in 1986. Written by Al Jourgensen and Paul Barker of Ministry and Nivek Ogre of Skinny Puppy, it marked the first collaboration between the three. The track appeared briefly during the club scene in the first ''RoboCop'' movie ( 1987) but did not appear on the soundtrack. The song was not commercially released until 2004 when it appeared on Ministry's ''Side Trax'' compilation. Musically, it is representative of the early Wax Trax sound, featuring arpeggio melodies, loud drums, sampled orchestral hits and Ogre's heavily distorted vocals. PTP released the "Rubber Glove Seduction" single in 1989 on Wax Trax. It was reissued in 1993 on TVT. The b-side was a song titled "My Favorite Things." 1000 Homo DJs was a side project of American industrial rock band Ministry. The project released two singles, one of which featured a cover of Black Sabbath's " Supernaut". 1000 Homo DJs began as a side project to release outtakes from Ministry's ''The Land of Rape and Honey''. The credits read "Another Luxa/Pan Production", which was the production pseudonym for Ministry members Al Jourgensen and Paul Barker. Origin of name In a 2004 interview, Jourgensen explained that when he played demos (presumably those which became ''Apathy'') for Wax Trax! co-owner Jim Nash, the latter replied, "No one's gonna buy this. It'll take one thousand homo DJs to play this for one person to buy it." Lard (band)
Lard is an American hardcore punk/ industrial band founded in 1988 as a side project by Jello Biafra (vocals; formerly of Dead Kennedys), Al Jourgensen (guitar; of Ministry), Paul Barker (bass; also of Ministry), and Jeff Ward (drums; once a Ministry touring member). Over the years, several other members of Ministry played with Lard, namely Bill Rieflin, Mike Scaccia, and Rey Washam. Like most of Biafra's work, Lard's songs are angrily political (the War on Drugs is a particularly common theme) but often have a tinge of humor. Lard has not officially toured and has only performed live a handful of times, mostly around the San Francisco area (where Jello lives and operates his Alternative Tentacles record label).
