Paul Atkins (Australian Footballer)
Paul Atkins (born 23 December 1968) is a former Australian rules footballer who played two games for the Sydney Swans in the 1992 AFL season. He had a similar build to his twin brother Simon Atkins who was a successful player at Footscray, the club with which Paul had originally tried out. He was recruited from Burnie Hawks in Tasmania. 1992 AFL season Atkins wore the number 32 jumper for the Sydney Swans in the 1992 AFL season and it took until Round 23 for Atkins to make his debut against the Brisbane Bears at Carrara. The Bears were a struggling team that finished on the bottom of the ladder in 1992. Atkins had seven kicks and 10 handballs in a losing Sydney side. Burnie Hawks Football Club
The Burnie Hawks Football Club was an Australian rules football club based in Burnie, Tasmania, Australia from 1987 to 1994. History The club was founded in 1987 after former North West Football Union (NWFU) club Cooee Bulldogs (1894–1986) closed down its operation in order to wipe out its large debts and rebrand itself with a more metropolitan-based name for its inclusion in the Tasmanian Football League (TFL) in that year. Cooee had been locked in a battle with its West Park co-tenant (Burnie Tigers) to desperately gain a licence to join the Tasmanian competition from midway through 1986, and it was the rebranding of the club which was seen to have tipped the scales in favour of Cooee/Burnie Hawks. Glenorchy Football Club
The Glenorchy District Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently playing in the Tasmanian State League and the Southern Football League in Tasmania, Australia. History The club is nicknamed the Magpies after its black and white playing strip, and was originally known as New Town Football Club (wearing a green and white strip) when it started out as a member of the Tasmanian Football League in 1919. New Town changed its name to Glenorchy in 1957 after absorbing the already established club Glenorchy Rovers and relocated its headquarters to KGV Oval at Glenorchy in Hobart's northern suburbs in the same year, playing its first match at the venue on 4 May 1957 against Hobart. North Hobart Oval is a Stadium, sports venue in North Hobart, Tasmania, used for Australian rules football. History North Hobart Oval started its existence as Hobart Town's brickfields in 1844 before becoming a Brickfields Hiring Depot, convict women's housing site, an immigration depot and an invalid persons' depot before closing in 1882 whereby the land became a rubbish dump until it was acquired for construction of a football stadium in 1921. The first official match to take place on North Hobart Oval was a Tasmanian Football League, TFL match between Lefroy Football Club, Lefroy and Glenorchy Football Club, New Town on 6 May 1922, the match was won by Lefroy (9.8.62 to 7.13.55) before 1,000-people. The North Hobart Football Club, nicknamed ''The Demons'', is an Australian rules football club which plays in the Tasmanian Football League, Tasmanian State League. Since 2009 they have played in the newly formed Tasmanian State League. History The club started as "Railway Football Club" in 1893 and were known as "Essendon" in the 1898 season. It fielded a team in the NTFA Junior Competition for three years, and began playing in the senior competition in 1896.
