Chain Of Craters Road
Chain of Craters Road is a long winding paved road through the East Rift and coastal area of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the island of Hawaii, in the state of Hawaii, United States. The original road, built in 1928, connected Crater Rim Drive to Makaopuhi Crater. The road was lengthened to reach the tiny town of Kalapana in 1959. As of 2018, the road has had parts covered by lava in 41 of the past 53 years, due to eruptions of Kīlauea volcano. Route description The road has paths and road offshoots that allow access to features such as pit craters, dormant lava flows, plumes from lava tubes and geographic sites that can be accessed by trails from the road. There are also scenic views through tropical rainforests, and the coast. Hiʻiaka Crater
In Hawaiian religion, Hiʻiaka is a daughter of Haumea and Kāne. Attributes and history Hiiaka is the patron goddess of hula dancers, chant, sorcery, and medicine. Owls are her messengers and are sacred to her. Conceived in Tahiti, Hiiaka was carried in the form of an egg to Hawaii by her sister Pele, who kept the egg with her at all times to incubate it. Thus, the name "Hiiaka" means "carried egg," as "hii" means to hold or carry in the arms (as a child) and "aka" means "embryo." Hiiaka's full name, Hiiaka-i-ka-poli-o-Pele, also refers to the story as it translates as "Hiiaka in the bosom of Pele." Her family line is called Hiiaka, and they take on the task of bearing the clouds, providing rain, thunder, and lightning, variously produced by storms and by Pele's volcanoes. Puʻu Huluhulu (Kīlauea)
Puu Huluhulu is a volcanic cone located near the center of the Island of Hawaii in the State of Hawaii. It is located on the southern side of Hawaii Route 200 (Daniel K. Inouye Highway, also known locally as Saddle Road), directly across from the highway's intersection with the Mauna Kea Access Road. Puu Huluhulu is Hawaiian for ''hairy hill'' (puu=hill and huluhulu=hairy). The cone is a kīpuka, which is an older volcanic hill covered with vegetation, surrounded by the younger lava flow. The hill is located on Hawaii Route 200 and is a native tree sanctuary and a nature trail. Kīlauea
Kīlauea ( , ) is an active shield volcano in the Hawaiian Islands.
