Patrulla 81
Patrulla 81 is a Regional Mexican band originally from the state of Durango. Group member José Ángel Medina formed the group in 1981. In 2004, the group released ''Cómo Pude Enamorarme de Ti'', a hit in both the United States and Mexico. In December 2007, the band released a new album, ''A Mi Ley'', featuring the single "Te Quiero Mucho." Patrulla 81's ''Quiéreme Más'' reached No. 1 on the ''Billboard'' Top Latin Albums chart in March 2009. In late 2009, the band released ''Sin Ti No Vive'', which debuted on ''Billboard's'' Regional Mexican chart at No. 1. Duranguense
Duranguense is a genre of Regional Mexican music. It is a hybrid of Technobanda and Tamborazo. Its popularity peaked in the mid to late 2000s among the Mexican and Mexican American community in the United States, as well as in many parts of Mexico. The instruments held over from tamborazo are the saxophone, trombone, and tambora, while the instruments held over from technobanda are the electronic keyboard (more specifically the Korg X3, Korg N364, which are used for the main melody and the Yamaha DX7, which is used by many bands for the bass section), drum set, and vocals. The electronic keyboard is emphasized in Duranguense, giving the genre its own signature riff. The genre popularized the dance style, Pasito Duranguense. Grupera
Grupera (also known as Grupero or Onda Grupera) is a genre of Regional Mexican music. It reached the height of its popularity in the 1990s, especially in rural areas. The music has roots in the rock groups of the 1960s, but today generally consists of four or more musicians using electric guitars, keyboards and drums. The music increased in popularity in the 1980s and became commercially viable, and is now recognized in some Latin music awards ceremonies such as Lo Nuestro and The Latin Grammy Awards. Fonovisa Records is an American Spanish language record label founded in 1984 by Guillermo Santiso as a subsidiary of Televisa. Its former name before being acquired by Televisa in 1984 was Profono Internacional, which was founded in 1978. Fonovisa mainly produces Mexican style music. Regional Mexican Albums is a genre-specific record chart published weekly by ''Billboard'' magazine in the United States. The chart was established in June 1985 and originally listed the top twenty-five best-selling albums of mariachi, tejano, norteño, and grupero, which are all sub genres of regional Mexican music. The genre is considered by musicologist as being "the biggest-selling Latin music genre in the United States", and represented the fastest ever growing Latin genre in the United States after tejano music entered the mainstream market during its 1990s golden age.
