Patrimonium (project)
Patrimonium (full name Patrimonium – the digitalization and release of Polish national heritage from the collections of the National and Jagiellonian libraries) is a 3-year (2017–2020) project of digitization whose main aim is to provide wide and free access to the most valuable and oldest Polish written sources from the two largest libraries in Poland ( the National Library and the Jagiellonian Library). “Patrimonium” is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, sub-measure 2.3.2: “Digital sharing of cultural resources” of the “Digital Poland Operational Programme 2014–2020”, and by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland. The idea of the project The project was initiated by the National Library of Poland which, for many years, has been working on digitization of its collection and release in digital form. Jagiellonian Library ( pl, Biblioteka Jagiellońska, popular nickname ''Jagiellonka'') is the library of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków and with almost 6.7 million volumes, one of the largest libraries in Poland, serving as a public library, university library and part of the Polish national library system.Official national library of Poland is the National Library of Poland in Warsaw; however Jagiellonian Library is considered a part of the '' Narodowy Zasób Biblioteczny''. Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland ( pl, Ministerstwo Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego) is a governmental administration office concerned with various aspects of Polish culture. It was formed on 31 October 2005, from transformation of ''Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Poland''. The ministry can trace its history back to 1918 when the Ministry of Art and Culture was established. It was suppressed in 1922 due to rationalization of public expense and structural reform of the government. It was reestablished within the temporary communist government in 1944 and has existed continuously henceforth until the merger with the Ministry of Sport in 2021. Polona is a Polish digital library, which provides digitized books, magazines, graphics, maps, music, fliers and manuscripts from collections of the National Library of Poland and co-operating institutions.
