Patrick Shaw (diplomat)
Sir Patrick Shaw (18 September 191327 December 1975) was an Australian public servant and diplomat. Shaw joined the Department of External Affairs in 1939. He worked in the Department's political section until 1941 when he was sent on his first overseas posting as third secretary in Australia's Tokyo legation. Shaw and other legation staff were taken as prisoners of war when war broke out. In 1973, Prime Minister Gough Whitlam announced Shaw's appointment as Ambassador to the United States. While in the role, Shaw suffered a fatal heart attack. He died on 27 December 1975. Bruce Alexander Grant (4 April 1925 – 3 August 2022) was an Australian journalist, foreign correspondent, government advisor, diplomat, novelist and author of several books on Australian politics and foreign policy. Early life Grant was born in Perth on 4 April 1925, and grew up in Kalgarin in outback Western Australia. His success in a state exam won him a place at Perth Modern School. Journalist Grant cut short his final year of secondary schooling to join Perth afternoon newspaper, the '' Daily News'' as a reporter. Arthur Tange
Sir Arthur Harold Tange (18 August 1914 – 10 May 2001) was a prominent Australian senior public servant of the middle to late 20th century. A considerable intellect, he was one of the most influential people in the government of Australia for nearly 30 years, earning him respect and disdain in equal measure. He was best known for his controversial role in reforming the organisation of the administration of the Australian Department of Defence in the 1970s. Sir Keith Charles Owen "Mick" Shann (22 November 1917 – 4 August 1988) was a senior Australian public servant and diplomat. Life and career Mick Shann was born in the Melbourne suburb of Kew, Victoria, on 22 November 1917. His father was Frank Shann, a respected teacher and headmaster. He studied arts at the University of Melbourne, where he was in residence at Trinity College from 1936 to 1936, winning the Alcock Scholarship. Shann's first Commonwealth Public Service positions were at the Bureau of Census and Statistics in 1939 and the Department of Labour and National Service from 1940 to 1946.
