Patrick Rose
Patrick M. Rose (born October 10, 1978) is a former Texas Democratic politician, who from 2002 to 2010 served as a member of the Texas House of Representatives from House District 45, which then consisted of Blanco, Caldwell, and Hays counties in Central Texas. Early life and education Rose was born and grew up in Dripping Springs, Texas. He graduated with High Honors in 2001 with an A.B. in Public Policy from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University; his senior thesis was titled "The Realities of School Reform: Educational Leadership Patterns in Trenton's Public Schools". He then earned a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law, and practiced law with the Ratliff firm in Austin before opening his own law firm in San Marcos. 2003 Texas Redistricting
The 2003 Texas redistricting refers to a controversial mid-decade state plan that defined new congressional districts. In the 2004 elections, this redistricting supported the Republicans taking a majority of Texas's House seats for the first time since Reconstruction. Opponents challenged the plan in three suits, combined when the case went to the United States Supreme Court in ''League of United Latin American Citizens v. Perry'' (2006). On June 28, 2006, the Supreme Court upheld the statewide redistricting as constitutional, with the exception of Texas's 23rd congressional district, which it held was racially gerrymandered in violation of Section 2 of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, apparently to try to protect a Hispanic Republican representative. Ardmore is the county seat of Carter County, Oklahoma, United States. According to the 2010 census, the city had a population of 24,283, with an estimated population of 24,698 in 2019. James Richard Perry (born March 4, 1950) is an American politician who served as the 14th United States secretary of energy from 2017 to 2019 and as the 47th governor of Texas from 2000 to 2015. Perry also ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in the 2012 and 2016 elections, losing to Mitt Romney and Donald Trump, respectively. 2002 Texas Gubernatorial Election
The 2002 Texas gubernatorial election was held on November 5, 2002, to elect the Governor of Texas. Incumbent Republican Governor Rick Perry, who had ascended to the governorship after the resignation of George W. Bush to become President of the United States, was elected to his first full term in office, winning 58% of the vote to Democrat Tony Sanchez's 40%. Perry carried 218 out of 254 counties, while Sanchez only carried 36. Exit polls showed Perry easily won among white voters with 72% while Sanchez won the African American vote with 85% and the Latino vote with 65%.
