Patrick Miller Of Dalswinton
Patrick Miller of Dalswinton, just north of Dumfries (1731–1815) was a Scottish banker, shareholder in the Carron Company engineering works and inventor. Miller is buried in a tomb against the southern wall of Greyfriars Kirkyard in Edinburgh. Early life Miller was born in Glasgow, the third son of William Miller of Glenlee, and his wife, Janet Hamilton. After attending the University of Glasgow, he decided to take up banking as his trade, since the Scottish economy was growing. Career By November 1760, Miller became partners with William Ramsay of Barnton, merchants and bankers, in Edinburgh. In 1767, he was elected to the court of the Bank of Scotland where he implemented a number of reforms, particularly the introduction of note exchange, whereby the bank agreed to accept notes of its competitors. Patrick Miller (politician)
Patrick Miller (died 26 February 1845) was a Scottish officer in the British Army and a politician. He sat in the House of Commons of Great Britain from 1790 to 1796. He was the son of Patrick Miller of Dalswinton, an Edinburgh banker. He was a nephew of Sir Thomas Miller, 1st Baronet and a first cousin of William Miller (1755–1846). He became a captain the in 14th Dragoons in 1789, and was with his regiment in Ireland when he was elected at the 1790 general election as the MP for Dumfries Burghs. The election was fiercely contested, with Miller's patron the 4th Duke of Queensberry spending over £8,000, while rival candidate Sir James Johnstone spent over £12,000 (equivalent to £ in ). Johnstone lodged a petition, but Miller's election was upheld on 1 April 1791. FAILE (Pronounced "fail") is a Brooklyn-based artistic collaboration between Patrick McNeil (born 1975) and Patrick Miller (born 1976). Since its inception in 1999, FAILE has been known for a wide-ranging multimedia practice recognizable for its explorations of duality through a fragmented style of appropriation and collage. While painting and printmaking remain central to their approach, over the past decade FAILE has adapted its signature mass culture-driven iconography to an array of materials and techniques, from wooden boxes and window pallets to more traditional canvas, prints, sculptures, stencils, installation, and prayer wheels. Patrick Wayne Miller (born January 15, 1980) is a United States Army soldier. He was a private first class during the 2003 invasion of Iraq with the U.S. Army's 507th Maintenance Company, serving as a mechanic, becoming a POW. For his actions leading up to his capture, he was awarded the Silver Star for valor. He retired from the United States Army in August 2022. Patrick Miller (born May 22, 1992) is an American professional basketball player for Brose Bamberg of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). He played college basketball for Tennessee State. High school career Miller played basketball at Chicago's Hales Franciscan High School, averaging 22.6 points and 3.8 assists per game in 32 games as a senior, leading his team to a 28–4 record, winning the Regional and Sectional Championships. He was named Chicago All-Area two times and was voted 2009–2010 Chicago Catholic League Player of the Year. College career Miller joined the Tennessee State Tigers as a freshman in 2010–11. Minimal Man was an American industrial and experimental rock project, formed in 1979 in San Francisco, California by leader Patrick Miller. Background Minimal Man was formed in San Francisco, California in 1979 by leader Patrick Miller, a visual and sound artist who moved to San Francisco in the late 1970s. The band often changed members, featuring at different times members of bands such as Tuxedomoon, Factrix and others active in the then-thriving San Francisco experimental, post-punk and industrial scenes. Minimal Man remained active in San Francisco recording on the Subterranean Records label until the mid-1980s, after which Miller relocated to Europe, often working with compatriots Tuxedomoon who had made a similar move previously. The Minimal Man output ceased after the 1980s, and Miller returned to Los Angeles, where he worked as a set dresser. Miller died at his home in Eagle Rock on December 14, 2003.
