Patrick Barrie
Patrick Barrie is a British tiddlywinks player. He has won ten World Singles matches, most recently in April 2022. He was defeated by Matthew Rose in March 2023 making him the former World Singles champion. He has won eight World Pairs matches (most recently partnering Harley Jones), but lost the World Pairs title in April 2022 to Larry Kahn and Jon Mapley. Barrie started playing tiddlywinks in 1984 as an undergraduate at Cambridge University, where he is a senior lecturer in chemical engineering. He has a long rivalry with American player Larry Kahn, with the ''Los Angeles Times'' describing them as "the Nadal and Djokovic of their game". The pair have played 11 World Singles matches, with Barrie winning three, and eight World Pairs matches (with various partners) with four wins apiece. Tiddlywinks
Tiddlywinks is a game played on a flat felt mat with sets of small discs called "winks", a pot, which is the target, and a collection of squidgers, which are also discs. Players use a "squidger" (nowadays made of plastic) to shoot a wink into flight by flicking the squidger across the top of a wink and then over its edge, thereby propelling it into the air. The offensive objective of the game is to score points by sending your own winks into the pot. The defensive objective of the game is to prevent your opponents from potting their winks by "squopping" them: shooting your own winks to land on top of your opponents' winks. As part of strategic gameplay, players often attempt to squop their opponents' winks and develop, maintain and break up large piles of winks. Larry Kahn (tiddlywinks)
Lawrence Kahn (born ) is an American tiddlywinks player. He is the most accomplished tiddlywinks player worldwide in terms of the number of individual worldwide championships as well as the number of pairs worldwide championships. Biography Larry Kahn grew up in North Miami Beach, Florida. He attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in ocean engineering in 1975. He would later receive a master's degree in the same field in 1976. In 1984, he was an ocean engineer with Washington Analytical Services in Rockville, Maryland. As of 2016, he worked with the National Institutes of Health, advising them on IT acquisitions. Tiddlywinks Kahn first heard about the game tiddlywinks in 1971 from an MIT handbook sent to incoming students. By 1989, he was the vice president of the North American Tiddlywinks Association and additionally operated a tiddlywinks parlor in Maryland.
