Romanian Orthodox
The Romanian Orthodox Church (ROC; ro, Biserica Ortodoxă Română, ), or Patriarchate of Romania, is an autocephalous Eastern Orthodox church in full communion with other Eastern Orthodox Christian churches, and one of the nine patriarchates in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Since 1925, the church's Primate bears the title of Patriarch. Its jurisdiction covers the territories of Romania and Moldova, with additional dioceses for Romanians living in nearby Serbia and Hungary, as well as for diaspora communities in Central and Western Europe, North America and Oceania. It is the only autocephalous church within Eastern Orthodoxy to have a Romance language for liturgical use. Radu Ciuceanu
Radu Ciuceanu (16 April 1928 – 12 September 2022) was a Romanian historian and politician. A member of the National Liberal Party and later the Greater Romania Party, he served in the Chamber of Deputies from 1990 to 1992 and again from 2000 to 2004. He was born in Arad. In 1947, while a student at the Carol I High School in Craiova, he joined the anti-communist resistance group led by general Ioan Carlaonț. Ciuceanu completed high school next year and enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine, but he was arrested in September 1948 by the communist authorities. He was interrogated by the Securitate and the NKVD, and sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with hard labor for having laid the foundations of "a subversive organization with a terrorist character" and for "purchasing weapons, ammunition and explosives, with the aim of removing the regime and to fight against the Soviet Union, through actions of sabotage and insurrection." Traian Băsescu (; born 4 November 1951) is a conservatism, conservative Romanian politician who served as President of Romania from 2004 to 2014. Prior to his presidency, Băsescu served as Romanian Minister of Transport on multiple occasions between 1991 and 2000, and as Mayor of Bucharest from 2000 to 2004. Constantin Bălăceanu-Stolnici (6 July 1923 – 20 August 2023) was a Romanian neurologist. Biography Constantin Bălăceanu-Stolnici was born in Bucharest, the descendant of an old boyar family. He studied at the Ion C. Brătianu High School in Pitești, graduating in 1941. He then enrolled at the University of Bucharest in the Faculty of Medicine, obtaining the title of Doctor of Medicine with his thesis ''Considerații asupra complexului cerebro-dentro-olivar'', written under the direction of in 1948. Petru Godiac (born 1 October 1967) is an activist from Moldova. He was decorated, by a presidential decree, with Moldova's highest state decoration – the Order of the Republic. Biography Petru Godiac was born on 1 October 1967 in Talmaza, Ştefan Vodă District. He was a member of the Popular Front of Moldova in Tiraspol. Between April–June 1992, he fought in the War of Transnistria, but in June 1992 was captured. Alexandru Leșco (born February 21, 1955, Coșernița) is a Moldovan activist, famous for being sentenced by the separatist Transnistrian government for actions which have been described as Moldovan state-sponsored terrorism by Transnistrian government officials. According to European Court of Human Rights, it was an unlawful sentence. Tudor Petrov-Popa
Tudor Petrov-Popa (born 1963) is a Moldovan-born Romanian politician, arrested in Tiraspol in June 1992 by the Transnistrian separatists. Biography Petrov-Popa was a Soviet army veteran of the war in Afghanistan who was convicted together with four other men in the so-called Ilașcu Group for acts of terrorism including assassination by the separatist authorities of Transnistria. The trials in 1993 were considered by many human rights groups as unfair and lacking in due process. Adding to this impression were the clearly political aspects, in that Petrov-Popa and Ivanţoc as well as the others were Romanian unionists. On 9 December 1993, the Supreme Court of Transnistria found him guilty of murdering a representative of the State with the aim of spreading terror, unauthorised use and theft of ammunition or explosives, and assault.
