Patras–Kyparissia Railway
The Patras–Kyparissia railway ( el, Σιδηροδρομική Γραμμή Πάτρας - Κυπαρισσίας) is a railway line of the OSE in Achaea, Elis, and Messenia, southwestern Greece. This 163 km long single track metre-gauge line connects Patras, Pyrgos and Kyparissia. Connections The Patras–Kyparissia railway is connected to the following other railway lines: *at Patras to the Piraeus–Patras railway *at Kavasila to the (abandoned) Kavasila–Kyllini railway *at Pyrgos to Katakolo *at Alfeios to Olympia *at Kalo Nero to Zevgolateio There was a ferry connection from Patras to Kryoneri, the southern terminus of the (now abandoned) railway line to Missolonghi and Agrinio. History Construction of the line was started in May 1887. The first section from Patras to Kato Achaia was opened in 1888, and to Pyrgos in 1890. Kyparissia was reached in 1902. Piraeus–Patras Railway
The railway from Piraeus to Patras was a 230-kilometre long metre-gauge railway line in Greece that connected the port of Athens, Piraeus with Patras in the Peloponnese peninsula, via Athens "Peloponnese" central station and Corinth. It was opened between 1884 and 1887. Formerly one of the main lines of the Greek railway network, it has now largely fallen into disuse. It has mostly been replaced by the Athens Airport–Patras railway, a new standard-gauge line whose first section opened in 2004 and which remains under construction between Aigio and Patras. The Proastiakos ( el, Προαστιακός; "suburban") is Greece's Commuter rail service, run by Hellenic Train, on rail infrastructure owned by the Hellenic Railways Organisation (OSE) (lines) and GAIAOSE (buildings and Trains). These services connect a participating city's central railway station to important locations such as a city's port or airport, as well as its suburbs and occasionally nearby towns and cities. As of September 2020, there are three Proastiakos networks, serving the country's three largest cities: Athens, Thessaloniki, and Patras, providing them with commuter rail links towards their suburbs and also with regional services to other cities and towns. Missolonghi or Messolonghi ( el, Μεσολόγγι, ) is a municipality of 34,416 people (according to the 2011 census) in western Greece.
