Patiya Upazila
Patiya ( bn, পটিয়া) is an upazila of Chattogram District in Chattogram Division, Bangladesh. History During the British rule, a police station(thana) was established in Patiya in 1845. It was upgraded to an ''upazila'' in 1984. The region saw revolutionary activities in the 1930s, when revolutionaries from Jugantar and the fugitives of the Chittagong armoury raid fought with British police. During the Bangladesh Liberation War, the area sustained heavy bombings from Pakistan Air Force. The Pakistani occupation army massacred more than 300 Hindus in Muzaffarabad village on 3 May 1971 in collaboration with the Razakars. Geography Patiya is located at . It has 70,218 households and a total area of . The township of Patiya has an area of . "Budbudir Chora" is one of them having enormous green forest and wild life. An ''upazila'' ( bn, উপজেলা, upôzela, lit=sub-district pronounced: ), formerly called ''thana'', is an administrative region in Bangladesh, functioning as a sub-unit of a district. It can be seen as an analogous to a county or a borough of Western countries. Rural upazilas are further administratively divided into union council areas (union parishads). Bangladesh ha495 upazilas(as of 20 Oct 2022). The upazilas are the second lowest tier of regional administration in Bangladesh. Pritilata Waddedar
Pritilata Waddedar (5 May 1911 – 24 September 1932) was an Indian revolutionary nationalist from the Indian subcontinent who was influential in the Indian independence movement. After completing her education in Chittagong and Dhaka, she attended Bethune College in Kolkata. She graduated in philosophy with distinction and became a school teacher. She is praised as "Bengal's first woman martyr". Pritilata joined a revolutionary group headed by Surya Sen. She is known for leading fifteen revolutionaries in the 1932 armed attack on the Pahartali European Club, during which one person was killed and eleven injured. The revolutionaries torched the club and were later caught by the colonial police. To escape arrest, Pritilata committed suicide by cyanide. Munīruzzamān Khān Islāmābādī ( bn, মনিরুজ্জামান খাঁন ইসলামাবাদী; 1875-1950), also known by the epithet Biplobi Maulana ( bn, বিপ্লবী মাওলানা, , Revolutionary Maulana), was a Muslim philosopher, nationalist activist and journalist from Islamabad (now known as Chittagong) in Bengal Presidency, British India (present-day Bangladesh). Purnendu Dastidar
Purnendu Dastidar ( bn, পূর্ণেন্দু দস্তিদার; 20 June 1909 – 9 May 1971) was a Bengali politician, writer and lawyer. A key leader of the Communist Party of East Pakistan, Dastidar was jailed for over two decades. Student years and revolutionary struggle Dastidar was born in Dalghat village, Chittagong District. He was the son of Chandra Kumar Dastidar, an officer of the Chittagong Law Court. He passed his I.sc. exam from Chittagong College in 1927. He went on to study at the Jadavpur Engineering and Technology College. He was a member of the Chittagong Jugantar Party, and took part in guerrilla actions against British targets together with Surya Sen, Kalpana Dutta and Pritilata Waddedar. The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh is a non political and non profit research organisation registered under both Society Act of 1864 and NGO Bureau, Government of Bangladesh. Union council ( bn, ইউনিয়ন পরিষদ, translit=iūniyan pariṣad, translit-std=IAST), also known as union parishad, rural council, rural union and simply union, is the smallest rural administrative and local government unit in Bangladesh. Each union council is made up of nine wards. Usually one village is designated as a ward. There are 4,562 unions in Bangladesh. 1991 Bangladesh Census
In 1991, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, conducted a national census in Bangladesh. They recorded data from all of the districts and upazilas and main cities in Bangladesh including statistical data on population size, households, sex and age distribution, marital status, economically active population, literacy and educational attainment, religion, number of children etc. According to the census, Hindus were 10.5 per cent of the population, down from 12.1 per cent as of 1981. Bangladesh have a population of 106,314,992 as per 1991 census report. Majority of 93,886,769 reported that they were Muslims, 11,184,337 reported as Hindus, 616,626 as Buddhists, 350,839 as Christians and 276,418 as others.
