Pat Quinn (businessman)
Pat Quinn (1 July 1935 – 23 November 2009) was an Irish publican, hotelier, music promoter, storyteller, former millionaire and founder of the Quinnsworth group, Ireland's first supermarket chain. He invented the term "yellow pack". According to ''The Irish Times'', he was "one of the country's best-known business figures in the 1960s and 1970s", "the whizz kid of the Irish grocery business" and "a well-known figure in the Irish-Canadian community" at his death. He worked, honeymooned and eventually settled with his family in Toronto. The ''Toronto Sun'' described him as "County Leitrim's favourite son". Early life Quinn was born on 1 July 1935 and grew up in Cloone, County Leitrim. Patrick Quinn (26 April 1936 – 13 July 2020) was a Scottish football player and manager. Career Quinn began his career in League football at Motherwell under the management of Bobby Ancell where he played alongside other "Ancell's Babes" such as Ian St John. Quinn established himself as a scheming inside-forward before moving to Blackpool in 1962. A year later, he returned to Scotland to join Hibernian and was a key component of the team's midfield under Jock Stein and Bob Shankly. He was a finalist in the 1968–69 Scottish League Cup. He finished his league career at East Fife, whom he went on to manage. He also coached FH. Quinn played four times for Scotland between 1961 and 1962. John Brian Patrick Quinn, (January 29, 1943 – November 23, 2014) was a Canadian ice hockey player, head coach, and executive. Known by the nickname "The Big Irishman", he coached for the National Hockey League's Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Edmonton Oilers, reaching the Stanley Cup Finals twice, with the Flyers in 1980 and the Canucks in 1994. Internationally, Quinn coached Team Canada to gold medals at the 2002 Winter Olympics, 2008 IIHF World U18 Championships and 2009 World Junior Championship, as well as World Cup championship in 2004. Prior to coaching, Quinn was an NHL defenceman, having played nine seasons in the league with the Maple Leafs, Canucks and Atlanta Flames. Patrick Joseph Quinn Jr. (born December 16, 1948) is an American lawyer and politician who served as the 41st governor of Illinois from 2009 to 2015. A Democrat, Quinn began his career as an activist by founding the Coalition for Political Honesty. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Quinn is a graduate of Georgetown University and Northwestern University School of Law. Quinn began his career as a tax attorney in private practice before working as an aide to then-Illinois Governor Dan Walker. He was elected to one term as a commissioner on the Cook County Board of Appeals, serving from 1982 to 1986; he later served as revenue director in the administration of Chicago Mayor Harold Washington. Quinn served as Treasurer of Illinois from 1991 to 1995. Patrick Quinn (February 10, 1983November 22, 2020) was an American amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) activist who helped generate awareness and raise more than US$220 million for medical research through the Ice Bucket Challenge, a viral social media campaign.
