Harman Wayne "Pat" Patterson (May 1, 1889 – March 31, 1987) was a college football player and engineer. Early years Harman Wayne Patterson, known as Wayne or "Pat", was born on May 1, 1889, in San Francisco, California. His father, Colonel Robert Harman Patterson, was an army officer and the family moved often. Georgia Tech Patterson was a prominent tackle and fullback on John Heisman's Georgia Tech Golden Tornado football teams. He also kicked the extra points. Patterson also played baseball at Tech. William Jennings Bryan "Pat" Patterson (January 29, 1897 – October 1, 1977) was an American professional baseball player, a third baseman and shortstop who appeared in 23 games in Major League Baseball for the New York Giants. Born in Belleville, Illinois, Patterson threw and batted right-handed and was listed as tall and . His elder brother Ham also had a brief big-league career. Pat Patterson's stint with the 1921 Giants came during the first two months of the season. He played sparingly until mid-June, going 2-for-5 in 15 brief appearances as a pinch hitter or defensive replacement. Andrew Lawrence Patterson (December 19, 1911 – May 16, 1984) was an American Negro league infielder in the 1930s and 1940s. A native of East Chicago, Indiana, Patterson attended Washington High School and Wiley College, where he starred in football and baseball. He broke into the Negro leagues in 1934 with the Cleveland Red Sox, and was selected to play in that season's East–West All-Star Game. After serving in the military in World War II, Patterson returned to baseball and played for the 1946 Negro World Series champion Newark Eagles. James Edwin "Gravy" Patterson Jr., also known as Pat Patterson, (March 26, 1934 – October 11, 2007) was an American college baseball coach. He served as the head baseball coach at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana from 1968 to 1990, compiling a record of 741–462–2 record. Patterson produced 18 winning seasons in 23 years, and his teams won 40 or more games in five of those years. He was Southland Conference Coach of the Year seven times. In retirement, he often returned as an interim coach. Seven of Patterson's players, including Mike Jeffcoat, Phil Hiatt, and David Segui, reached the majors. Clair Cameron Patterson (June 2, 1922 – December 5, 1995) was an American geochemist. Born in Mitchellville, Iowa, Patterson graduated from Grinnell College. He later received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and spent his entire professional career at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). In collaboration with George Tilton, Patterson developed the uranium–lead dating method into lead–lead dating. By using lead isotopic data from the Canyon Diablo meteorite, he calculated an age for the Earth of 4.55 billion years, which was a figure far more accurate than those that existed at the time, and one that has remained largely unchanged since 1956.
