Pat Leahy (Cork Hurler)
Pat Leahy (4 August 1878 – 1 April 1950) was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Dungourney and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team from 1902 until 1907. Playing career Club Leahy played his club hurling with the famous Dungourney team in Cork and enjoyed some success. He won three county senior championship titles in all, with these victories coming in 1902, 1907 and 1909. Inter-county Leahy first tasted success on the inter-county scene with Cork in 1902 when he lined out in his first Munster final. Limerick provided the opposition, however, Cork were the winners by 2-9 to 1-5 and Leahy collected a Munster winners’ medal. Galway and Dublin were later defeated as Cork booked their place in the All-Ireland final with London providing the opposition. Dungourney GAA
Dungourney GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Dungourney, County Cork, Ireland. The club fields teams in both Gaelic football and hurling. It is a member of the Imokilly division of Cork GAA. The club was one of the strongest clubs in the Cork during the first decade of the 20th century. Its 3 Cork Senior Hurling Championship titles were the most by a club outside Cork City for many years. The best known player is Jamesy Kelleher who was included on Cork's Hurling Team of the Century. In 1902, the club represented Cork in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. This resulted in the club winning the All-Ireland hurling title. The London County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Coiste Londain) or London GAA is one of the county boards outside Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in London. The county board is also responsible for the London county teams and schools. The county football team compete in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship on an annual basis, the only English based team to do so. They participate through in the Connacht Senior Football Championship as the Irish community in London are considered as part of the province of Connacht. Dungourney Hurlers
Dungourney () is a village in County Cork, Ireland on the R627 regional road northeast of Midleton. The river Dungourney flows through the village. St. Peter's National School is located in the centre. There is a church in the west of the village and a post office across the road. There are several roads linking to Midleton, Castlematyr and Tallow. Sport Dungourney GAA Club and Dungourney Camogie Club are the local Gaelic games clubs. The Fitzgibbon Cup, the hurling competition contested by university teams, is named after Dungourney man Fr. Edwin Fitzgibbon. He was born in 1884, and went to school in the area before joining the Capuchin Franciscan Order in 1893. John Redmond Anthony (13 August 1885 – 6 November 1964) was an Irish hurler who played in numerous positions for the Kilkenny senior team. Anthony made his first appearance for the team during the 1904 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen for the next three seasons until his retirement after the 1907 championship. Jimmy Kelly (Mooncoin Hurler)
Jimmy "the wren" Kelly (1884–1966) was an Irish hurler who played as a full-forward for the Kilkenny senior hurling team. Born in Mooncoin, County Kilkenny, Kelly first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-two when he first linked up with the Kilkenny senior team. He made his senior debut during the delayed 1904 championship. Kelly subsequently became a regular member of the starting team, and won six All-Ireland medals and seven Leinster medals. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, Kelly won three Railway Shield medals. At club level he was a three-time championship medallist with Mooncoin, after beginning his career with Ballyduff. Kelly retired from inter-county hurling after the 1913 championship. The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year except one since 1887. The final, currently held on the third Sunday in August, is the culmination of a series of games played during July and August, with the winning team receiving the Liam MacCarthy Cup. Páirc Uí Chaoimh ( ) is a Gaelic games stadium in Cork (city), Cork, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is the home of Cork GAA. Cork ( , from , meaning 'marsh') is the second largest city in Ireland and third largest city by population on the island of Ireland.
