It is Endemism, endemic to rainforests of north east Queensland, from Cooktown southwards to Cairns, and at altitudes from near sea level to . It was first described in 2009. Taxonomy ''Passiflora kuranda'' was first described by Shawn Elizabeth Krosnick and Andrew James Ford in 2009.
