Pasco High School (Washington)
Pasco High School is a 9-12 public high school in Pasco, Washington. It was the only High School in Pasco until 2009 when Chiawana High School, in West Pasco, opened its doors. In 2006, the Pasco voters approved a $90 million+ bond to construct a new high school on Argent and Road 84 to ease the overcrowding of Pasco High. The new Chiawana High School, opened its doors in the fall of 2009 along Argent Road. During the time of construction, Pasco High turned Captain Gray STEM Elementary School, located at 1102 N.10th Avenue into an annex, where a majority of freshman classes were held. Once Chiawana High opened, the building once again became Captain Gray Elementary. Additionally, the school makes use of over 50 portable classrooms. Pasco, Washington
Pasco ( ) is a city in, and the county seat of, Franklin County, Washington, United States. It had a population of 59,781 at the 2010 census, and 75,432 as of the July 1, 2019 Census Bureau estimate. Pasco is one of three cities (the others being Kennewick and Richland) that make up Washington state's Tri-Cities region, a mid-sized metropolitan area of approximately 296,224 people. History On October 16, 1805, the Lewis and Clark Expedition camped in the Pasco area, at a site now commemorated by Sacajawea State Park. The area was frequented by fur trappers and gold traders. In the 1880s, the Northern Pacific Railway was built near the Columbia River, bringing many settlers to the area. Pasco was officially incorporated on September 3, 1891. Tyler Brayton
Tyler Brayton (born November 20, 1979) is a former American football defensive end. He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders 32nd overall in the 2003 NFL Draft. He played college football at Colorado. Brayton also played for the Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts. College career In 47 games at the University of Colorado, Brayton recorded 152 tackles with 12.5 sacks, 25 stops for losses, 34 quarterback pressures, 17 third-down hits, three fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles and six pass deflections. Kathy Brock (born July 24, 1959) is a former news anchor at WLS-TV, Chicago, Illinois, Chicago's American Broadcasting Company, ABC affiliate. She was a co-anchor of the station's 6 pm and 10 pm news broadcasts alongside Alan Krashesky. Joseph Santos
Joseph Santos (born 1965) is a contemporary American (European and Filipino descent) artist/watercolorist. He is known for his watercolor paintings of urban and industrial objects. His work has garnered many awards nationally, including the Paul B. Remmey award at the prestigious American Watercolor Society 138th international exhibition in New York City. His paintings have been exhibited in museums throughout the United States, including the Elmhurst Art Museum in Illinois and the Springfield Art Museum in Missouri. Doc Hastings
Richard Norman Hastings (born February 7, 1941) is an American politician and member of the Republican Party who served as the U.S. representative for from 1995 until his retirement in 2015. The district includes much of central Washington including the Tri-Cities, Yakima, and Moses Lake. The most conservative Republican in Washington's Congressional delegation, he chaired the House Committee on Ethics from 2005 to 2007 and chaired the House Committee on Natural Resources from 2011 to his leaving office. Duke Washington
Carl Talmage "Duke" Washington (October 3, 1933 – February 16, 2017) was a former American football running back from Pasco, Washington, famous for his play for Washington State University. Football career He is thought of by many as the greatest running back in Pasco High School history. His accomplishments at PHS and later with the Washington State Cougars in the early and middle 1950’s compare to other great backs of his day. Still, Duke Washington is best known as the first black man to ever play in the University of Texas’ Memorial Stadium. Washington, a captain on the 1954 WSU squad, was given the option to not play against the Longhorns in their home stadium, which had an “unofficial” rule that forbid blacks from playing either for or against Texas. Bruce Kison
Bruce Eugene Kison (February 18, 1950 – June 2, 2018) was an American professional baseball pitcher, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1971–79), California Angels (1980–84) and Boston Red Sox (1985). Kison won two World Series championships with the Pirates, both over the Baltimore Orioles, and is perhaps best remembered for throwing scoreless innings of relief to win Game 4 of the 1971 World Series. He batted and threw right-handed. Kison grew up in Pasco, Washington, and was drafted by the Pirates in the 14th round of the 1968 Major League Baseball draft. Ron Howard (American Football)
Ronald Ford Howard (born March 3, 1951) is a former American football tight end in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills. He played college basketball at Seattle University. Early years Howard attended Pasco High School for three years. He practiced football, basketball and track for Pasco High School. As a senior, Howard averaged 23.7 points per game, while leading the basketball squad to a 25–1 record, with the 51–53 loss coming in the state championship game to Snohomish High School in overtime. He was a high school All-American in basketball and All-conference in football as a tight end (he also played defensive back). Karen Murray-Hodgins is a basketball player. She graduated from Pasco High in 1980. Nerdcore
Nerdcore is a genre of hip hop music characterized by subject matter considered of interest to nerds and geeks. Self-described nerdcore musician MC Frontalot has the earliest known recorded use of the term (to describe this genre) in the 2000 song "Nerdcore Hiphop". Frontalot, like most nerdcore artists, self-publishes his work and has released much of it for free online. As a niche genre, nerdcore generally holds to the DIY ethic, and has a history of self-publishing and self-production. Though nerdcore rappers rhyme about anything from politics to science fiction, there are some perennial favorites in nerdcore subject matter, including ''Star Wars'', Internet pornography, role-playing games, science, fantasy and computers. Music with similar themes, but different musical styles can be found in the filk and geek rock genres. Keith A. Moore (born December 15, 1985) is a nerdcore rapper, better known by the stage name Beefy, from the Tri-Cities, Washington. Career In 2005, Moore produced two independent EPs, ''The Whitesican EP'' and ''nerd''. He created animated music videos for the songs "Whitesican" and "David's Sister" (both from ''The Whitesican EP''), which gave him notoriety after they appeared on Albino Blacksheep.
