Perisur (also Centro Comercial Perisur) is a shopping mall located in the Coyoacán borough in southern Mexico City at the intersection of Insurgentes Avenue South and the Anillo Periférico, next to the UNAM main campus in Ciudad Universitaria and to the upscale Jardines del Pedregal neighbourhood. Designed by architect Juan Sordo Madaleno, the shopping center became the largest shopping mall in total area in Mexico when it opened in 1980. Plaza Satélite is a shopping mall in the northwest part of Greater Mexico City in Ciudad Satélite on the Anillo Periferico ring road. Opened on October 13, 1971, it was Mexico's first American-style shopping mall. It has over 240 stores and services. History Plaza Satélite began construction in 1968 in Ciudad Satélite with the blueprints of architect Juan Sordo Madaleno. It was inaugurated on October 13, 1971 with four anchors: Sears Roebuck, Liverpool, Sanborn's, and París-Londres, with 150 retail units in total including restaurants, banks and the largest movie theater in Latin America with 1,400 seats. At that time it had parking space for 3000 cars. By 1995 the mall was expanded, doubling in size to 240 commercial spaces. Polanco is a neighborhood in the Miguel Hidalgo borough of Mexico City. Polanco is an affluent '' colonia'', noted for its luxury shopping along Presidente Masaryk Avenue, the most expensive street in Mexico, as well as for the numerous prominent cultural institutions located within the neighborhood. Originally a residential area of large single-family homes, the land use of the neighborhood began to change in the second half of the 20th century. Suburbia is a chain of department stores founded in 1970 in Mexico City. Its main activity consists of the sale of clothing, appliances, electronics and cell phones aimed at the socioeconomic middle and low classes. Suburbia currently has 166 stores in the Mexican Republic. History The first branch was opened on October 28, 1970, in Taxqueña, south of Mexico City, in which its concept was born as a department store for clothing, footwear and accessories for the whole family. In 1986, together with Aurrerá, Bodega Aurrerá, Superama, Vips and El Portón, Grupo Cifra was created. In 1994, together with Vips, Suburbia joined the Cifra Walmart group (which in turn changed to Walmart de México in 2001). In 1997, Suburbia had more than 9,000 employees.
