Parvaneh Vossough
Parvaneh Vossough (March 1935- May 2013 پروانه وثوق) was an Iranian physician, chiefly known for her work for children with cancer. Early life and education Parvaneh Vossough was born on March 1935 in Tafresh, Iran. She joined the faculty of Medicine of Tehran University in 1961 where she received a doctorate degree in medicine. She completed her specialization in Pediatric Oncology at the Medical Sciences department of University of Illinois from 1962 to 1964. She later went to the universities of Cambridge and Massachusetts and finished her further studies in those universities. She also attended Washington University for her graduate course. In 1971 she returned to Iran and practiced her profession in Ali Asghar Children's Hospital, Mofid and Tehran Children hospitals. She also was one of the founders and fixed members of the Mahak Sub specialty Hospital that is a charity hospital for children suffering from cancer. Tafresh
Tafresh ( fa, تفرش, ''Tafreš'') is a city and the capital of Tafresh County, in Markazi Province, Iran. As of the 2011 census, its population was 25,912 (including 12,884 men and 13,028 women). Tafresh is located amidst high mountains southwest of Tehran. The flight distance between Tehran and Tafresh is 170 km towards southwest. Mahak
The Mahak Society to Support Children with Cancer is a non-governmental organisation in Tehran dedicated to helping Iranian children with cancer. It runs an 18000 sq m hospital in the north of Tehran. Foundation of MAHAK The organisation was founded in 1991 by Saideh Ghods. She had experienced having a child with cancer and had witnessed first hand the difficulties faced by her child, and pledged that she would set up a center that would act as a sanctuary for children and their families in a similar situation.
