The Party of Progress and Socialism ( ar, حزب التقدم والاشتراكية, translit=Hizb Al-Taqadoum Wal-Ishtirakiyeh; zgh, ⴰⴽⴰⴱⴰⵔ ⵏ ⵓⴼⴰⵔⴰ ⴷ ⵜⵏⵎⵍⴰ; french: Parti du Progrès et du Socialisme, PPS) is a left-wing socialist political party in Morocco. History and profile The party was founded in 1974 by Ali Yata as the successor of Moroccan Communist Party and Party of Liberation and Socialism. After the fall of the Eastern Bloc, the party distanced itself from communism. In the parliamentary election held on 27 September 2002, the party won 11 out of 325 seats. In the next parliamentary election, held on 7 September 2007, the party won 17 out of 325 seats. The PPS was included in the government of Prime Minister Abbas El Fassi, formed on 15 October 2007. Nabil Benabdallah
Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah (born 3 June 1959) is a Moroccan politician who has served as Minister of Housing and Urbanism of Morocco since 2012, as part of the cabinet of Abdelilah Benkirane. Born in Rabat, Nabil Benabdallah started his career as a translator in the Moroccan courts. Between 1997 and 2000 he was executive director of the Party of Progress and Socialism's official newspapers ''al-Bayan'' and ''Bayan al-Yawm''. In 2010, he was elected as the Secretary General of the Party of Progress and Socialism, succeeding Moulay Ismaïl Alaoui. El Hossein El Ouardi ( ar, الحسين الوردي; born 22 September 1954) is a Moroccan politician of the Party of Progress and Socialism. From 3 January 2012 to 24 October 2017, he held the position of Minister of Health in Abdelilah Benkirane's government. In January 2014, El Ouardi was physically assaulted while exiting the parliament in Rabat. His assailants were members of the pharmacists union/lobby, and one of them was the brother-in-law of Fouad Ali El Himma, the influential advisor and close-friend of Mohammed VI, in addition to being the cousin of Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, the then-mayor of Marrakesh belonging to the Authenticity and Modernity Party. 2021 Moroccan General Election
General elections were held in Morocco on 8 September 2021 to elect 395 members of the House of Representatives. The National Rally of Independents led by Aziz Akhannouch won the most seats (102), a gain of 65 seats from the prior election. The liberal Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) took second place with 87 seats, a net loss of 15 seats. The centre-right Istiqlal Party gained 35 seats and took third place with 81 seats total. Abbas El Fassi (; ar, عباس الفاسي; born 18 September 1940) was Moroccan politician and businessman, prime minister of Morocco from 19 September 2007 to 29 November 2011. El Fassi, a member of the Istiqlal Party, replaced independent Driss Jettou. Early life and career El Fassi was born in Berkane, Morocco, on 18 September 1940.
