Captain Jack (group)
Captain Jack is a German Eurodance and dance-rock project formed in Darmstadt, Germany, in 1995. The project is best known for the single "Captain Jack", which reached the Top-10 in many countries in Europe. History and career 1995–1996: Career beginnings The original formation consisted of Sharky Durban and Liza da Costa. They recorded the songs "Dam, Dam, Dam" and "Captain Jack". The latter is the only featured song on the band's debut album ''The Mission''. 1996–1998: Second lineup, ''The Mission'' and ''Operation Dance'' Sharky left in 1996 and was replaced by Francisco Gutierrez alias Franky Gee. After serving in the United States Army, Gutierrez had remained in Germany, where he was last stationed, and had begun a recording career under the name "Westside". While recording music under that name, he proposed the idea of a dance track based on a drill routine. That idea became the Captain Jack style. Dance Music
Dance music is music composed specifically to facilitate or accompany dancing. It can be either a whole musical piece or part of a larger musical arrangement. In terms of performance, the major categories are live dance music and recorded dance music. Iko Iko
"Iko Iko" () is a much-covered New Orleans song that tells of a parade collision between two tribes of Mardi Gras Indians and the traditional confrontation. The song, under the original title "Jock-A-Mo", was written and released in 1953 as a single by James "Sugar Boy" Crawford and his Cane Cutters but it failed to make the charts. The song first became popular in 1965 by the girl group the Dixie Cups, who scored an international hit with "Iko Iko". In 1967, as part of a lawsuit settlement between Crawford and the Dixie Cups, the trio were given part songwriting credit for the song. In 1972, Dr. John had a minor hit with his version of "Iko Iko". In the UK, a version recorded by Scottish singer Natasha England in 1982 made it to the top 10. "Iko Iko" became an international hit twice more, the first being the Belle Stars in June 1982 and again with Captain Jack in 2001. Dancing Pompokolin
is a song by Japanese pop group B.B.Queens, serving as their debut single on April 4, 1990. It was used as the original ending theme of the anime series '' Chibi Maruko-chan''. On July 9, 1990, "Odoru Pompokolin" reached the top of the Oricon Singles Charts, and again on July 23, on August 20, before serving as the number 1 weekly song throughout the month of September 1990. It ultimately remained on the charts for a total of 54 weeks, sold 1.9 million copies, and won both record of the year and pop rock song of the year at the 32nd Japan Record Awards as well as the 1991 JASRAC Award. The song was composed and arranged by Tetsuro Oda with lyrics by Momoko Sakura, author of ''Chibi Maruko-chan''. "Odoru Pompokolin" became very popular as an anime theme song, reaching number 8 on a list of 100 unforgettable anime theme songs compiled by TV Asahi and then at number 1 on a list of the top 20 anime theme songs of the 1990s, also compiled by TV Asahi.
