The Party of Freedom and Justice ( sr, Странка слободе и правде, Stranka slobode i pravde, SSP) is a social-democratic political party in Serbia. It is led by Dragan Đilas. It was founded in April 2019 after a merger of the Green Ecological Party and Serbian Left. Since its inception, it has placed itself as a major opposition political party in Serbia after leading two opposition alliances, the Alliance for Serbia, United Opposition of Serbia, and United for the Victory of Serbia. Dragan Đilas
Dragan Đilas ( sr-cyr, Драган Ђилас, , born 22 February 1967) is a Serbian businessman and politician who served as the mayor of Belgrade from 2008 to 2013. From 25 November 2012 until 31 May 2014, he served as the President of the Democratic Party (DS), the nation's main opposition party. As a member of the Democratic Party, Đilas served as the mayor of the Serbian capital city between 2008 and 2013. He served as the Minister without Portfolio in charge of the National Investment Plan in the 2007–2008 Cabinet of Serbia and prior to that as the director of the People's Office of the President between 2004 and 2007. 2022 Serbian Parliamentary Election
General elections were held in Serbia on 3 April 2022 to elect both the president and members of the National Assembly. Initially, parliamentary elections were scheduled to be held in 2024; however, in October 2020 president Aleksandar Vučić stated that snap parliamentary elections would be held in or before April 2022. In addition to the general elections, local elections were held simultaneously in 12 municipalities and 2 cities, including Belgrade. The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) came to power in 2012 after forming a government with the Socialist Party of Serbia. They won a supermajority of seats following the 2020 parliamentary election, which was boycotted by the major opposition Alliance for Serbia that claimed that "the election would not be free and fair". The political status of Kosovo, also known as the Kosovo question, is the subject of a long-running political and territorial dispute between the Serbian (and previously, Yugoslav) government and the Government of Kosovo, stemming from the breakup of Yugoslavia (1991–92) and the ensuing Kosovo War (1998–99). Economic growth can be defined as the increase or improvement in the inflation-adjusted market value of the goods and services produced by an economy in a financial year. Statisticians conventionally measure such growth as the percent rate of increase in the real gross domestic product, or real GDP.
