Partho Sengupta
Partho Sen-Gupta (also spelled Partho Sen Gupta or Partho Sengupta pronounced ''Partho Shen-Goopto'') is an independent film director and screenwriter. He is a French citizen, of Indian origin. He has a post-graduate in Film Direction from FEMIS. Biography Sen-Gupta was born in Mumbai (Bombay), on 2 September 1965. He has been working in cinema since the age of seventeen, starting his career as an apprentice in the art department, in the studios of "Bollywood" in Mumbai. He worked with an Indian art director Bijon Dasgupta on the sets of big budget commercial Hindi films like '' Saagar'' and ''Mr. India'' among others. After having spent a few years and finishing his apprenticeship, he became assistant art director. The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) is an annual film festival held at the end of January in various locations in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. ''Sunrise'' ( mar, अरुणोदय) is a dramatic film written and directed by Partho Sen-Gupta, released in 2014. Shakti (band)
Shakti were a fusion band formed by English guitarist John McLaughlin (musician), John McLaughlin, Indian violin player L. Shankar, percussionists Zakir Hussain (musician), Zakir Hussain (on tabla) and T. H. "Vikku" Vinayakram (on Ghatam) in 1974. The band played acoustic Jazz fusion, fusion music which combined India, Indian music with elements of jazz. The band's Hindi name means, in English, "creative intelligence, beauty, and power." In addition to fusing American and Indian music, Shakti also represented a fusion of the Hindustani classical music, Hindustani and Carnatic music traditions, since Hussain is from the north region of India while the other Indian members are from the South. The Global Film Initiative (GFI) was a non-profit film organization that supported cinematic works from developing nations and promotes cross-cultural understanding through use of film and non-traditional learning resources.
