Parkrose High School
Parkrose High School is a public high school in Portland, Oregon, United States. It is the only high school in the Parkrose School District. Academics In 2008, 72% of the school's seniors received a high school diploma. Of 231 students, 167 graduated, 27 dropped out, ten received a Oregon modified high school diploma, modified diploma, and 27 were still in high school the following year. These numbers have gotten slightly better (and higher than the state average), with, in 2014, a 78% on-time graduation rate for seniors and 34 dropping out. Athletics The Parkrose High School dance team, the Elite, placed first in the show division of the OSAA State Championships in 1996, 2001, 2010, 2011, and 2014. Parkrose High School. Ray Blume
Bernard Ray Blume (born September 23, 1958) is an American former basketball player. Blume achieved his greatest career success at the collegiate level as a guard for an Oregon State University Beavers men's basketball. During Blume's four-year tenure the team went 86–27 and made the NCAA tournament twice. Blume won All-American honors in 1980 and was All-Conference in 1980 and 1981. He was inducted into the Oregon State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004 and into the Pac-12 Conference Basketball Hall of Honor in 2017. Blume spent the 1981–82 season as a reserve for the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association before playing the sport professionally in Europe. Jim Pepper
Jim Gilbert Pepper II (June 18, 1941 – February 10, 1992) was a jazz saxophonist, composer and singer of Kaw and Muscogee Creek Native American heritage. He moved to New York City in 1964, where he came to prominence in the late 1960s as a member of The Free Spirits, an early jazz-rock fusion group that also featured Larry Coryell and Bob Moses. Pepper went on to have a lengthy career in jazz, recording almost a dozen albums as a bandleader and many more as featured soloist. Pepper and Joe Lovano played tenor sax alongside each other in a band led by drummer Paul Motian, recording three LPs in 1984, 1985 and 1987. Motian described Pepper's playing as "post- Coltrane". Larry Harvey
Larry Harvey (January 11, 1948 – April 28, 2018) was an American artist, philanthropist and activist. He was the main co-founder of the Burning Man event, along with his friend Jerry James. Early life Born in San Francisco, Harvey grew up in Portland, Oregon, where he was raised in the Parkrose neighborhood. He graduated from Parkrose High School in 1966. After high School, he joined the army and served as a clerk stationed in Germany. He later attended Portland State University. Brian Lindstrom (born February 12, 1961) is a documentary filmmaker. In 2013, Lindstrom directed ''Alien Boy: The Life and Death of James Chasse''. The film examines the life of a man diagnosed with schizophrenia who died in police custody in Portland, Oregon on September 17, 2006. ''Alien Boy: the Life and Death of James Chasse'' is distributed by Breaking Glass Pictures and has been shown at film festivals in the US and Canada. Edward Cory Kunz (born April 8, 1986) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Mets. Susan Helms
Susan Jane Helms (born February 26, 1958) is a retired United States Air Force lieutenant general and NASA astronaut. She was the commander, 14th Air Force (Air Forces Strategic); and commander, Joint Functional Component Command for Space at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Helms was a crew member on five Space Shuttle missions and was a resident of the International Space Station (ISS) for over five months in 2001. While participating in ISS Expedition 2, she and Jim Voss conducted an 8-hour and 56 minute spacewalk, the world record for the longest spacewalk. Michael Allen Harrison is an American new-age musician, songwriter and pianist from Portland, Oregon. Early years Michael started playing the piano at age six. LeRon Perry Ellis (born April 28, 1969) is an American former professional basketball player.
