Parklane Academy
Parklane Academy is a private Protestant school from grades Kindergarten through 12th grade located in McComb, Mississippi. It was founded in 1970 as a segregation academy. Parklane is a member of the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS). Currently the elementary school principal is Linda Love, the high school principal is Jill Jackson, and the superintendent is Jack Henderson. History The school was founded in 1970 in reaction to the desegregation of the McComb, Mississippi public schooling system (McComb School District). Originally new students were required to have the sponsorship of two families whose children attended the academy and no black students were invited. Asked about the lack of African-American students in 1994 Kathy Miller, administrative assistant at Parklane, told the ''Austin American-Statesman'' that " have a couple of black students. McComb, Mississippi
McComb is a city in Pike County, Mississippi, United States. The city is approximately south of Jackson. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 12,790. It is the principal city of the McComb, Mississippi Micropolitan Statistical Area. History 19th century McComb was founded in 1872 after Henry Simpson McComb of the New Orleans, Jackson and Great Northern Railroad, a predecessor of the Illinois Central Railroad (now part of the Canadian National Railway), decided to move the railroad's maintenance shops away from New Orleans, Louisiana, to avoid the attractions of that city's bars. The railroad purchased land in Pike County. Three nearby communities, Elizabethtown, Burglund, and Harveytown, agreed to consolidate to form this town.
