Park Han-yi (Hangul: 박한이, Hanja: 朴漢伊) (born January 28, 1979 in Busan, South Korea) is a South Korean former professional baseball outfielder He played for the Samsung Lions of the KBO League. Amateur career In July , as a freshman at Dongguk University, Park got his first call-up to the South Korea national baseball team for the team's five annual friendly matches against the USA national baseball team in California, United States. In July , as a sophomore, Park was selected for the South Korean national team again, and participated in the 1998 Baseball World Cup. South Korea eventually claimed the silver medal two times in a row, and Park led the team attack alongside cleanup hitter Choi Hee-Seop, going 17-for-41 (.415) with 10 runs. Outfielder
An outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the bases. As an outfielder, they normally play behind the six players located in the field. By convention, each of the nine defensive positions in baseball is numbered. The outfield positions are 7 (left field), 8 (center field) and 9 (right field). The KBO League (), officially the Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League, is the highest level league of baseball in South Korea. The KBO League was founded with six franchises in 1982 and is the most popular sports league in South Korea. The Kia Tigers are the most successful team, having won 11 of the 40 championships. Lee Byung-Kyu
Lee Byung-kyu (born October 25, 1974) is a South Korean retired baseball player who played 17 seasons for the LG Twins of the KBO League, as well as three seasons with the Chunichi Dragons of Nippon Professional Baseball. He also competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics and in the 2000 Summer Olympics. He played as an outfielder. Lee was a member of the South Korean team which finished eighth in the 1996 tournament. Four years later he was part of the South Korean baseball team which won the bronze medal. Lee played for the LG Twins from 1997 to 2006 and then from 2010 to 2016. His number 9 was retired on July 9, 2017, in a ceremony that took place both before and after the game against the Hanwha Eagles. Center Fielder
A center fielder, abbreviated CF, is the outfielder in baseball who plays defense in center field – the baseball and softball fielding position between left field and right field. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the center fielder is assigned the number 8. Asian Baseball Championship
The Asian Baseball Championship is the main championship tournament between national baseball teams in Asia, governed by the Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA). It is held every other year in odd-numbered years and since 1983 it also functions as the qualification games for the Baseball at the Summer Olympics if the event year is exactly one year before the Olympics. In baseball, a leadoff hitter is a batter who bats first in the lineup. It can also refer to any batter who bats first in any inning. Strategy Traditionally, the leadoff hitter has been utilized as a contact-oriented position. The leadoff hitter is usually tasked with being able to reach base at a proficient on-base percentage and generate runs for the team. Secondary goals for such a player include wearing down a pitcher's stamina and providing a dangerous presence along the basepaths to create more offensive opportunities. In baseball, a cleanup hitter is the fourth hitter in the batting order. The cleanup hitter is traditionally the team's most powerful hitter. His job is to "clean up the bases", i.e., drive in base runners. Theory The thinking behind the use of the cleanup hitter is that at least one of the batters before him will reach base somehow, usually via a walk or a base hit. Traditionally, the lead off hitter, the number one spot in the batting order, has good foot speed, plate discipline, and a high on-base percentage. 1998 Baseball World Cup
The 1998 Baseball World Cup (BWC) was the 33rd international Men's amateur baseball tournament. The tournament was sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation, which titled it the Amateur World Series from the 1938 tournament through the 1986 AWS. The tournament was held, for the third time, in Italy, from July 21 to August 2. The final was a repeat of the previous BWC tournament, with Cuba again defeating South Korea in the final, winning its 22nd title. There were 16 participating countries, split into two groups, with the first four of each group qualifying for the finals. This was the first edition of the tournament that allowed professional players to take part in the competition.
