Park Avenue Chamber Symphony
The Park Avenue Chamber Symphony (PACS) is a classical symphony orchestra based in New York City. The orchestra has performed at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall and won The American Prize Competition in Orchestral Performance three times. The orchestra's recordings are produced by Recursive Classics, and are distributed through Apple, Amazon, Spotify and other retailers. The current music director is David Bernard. The symphony regularly features soloists such as David Chan (concertmaster, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra), Carter Brey (cellist, New York Philharmonic), and Anthony McGill (clarinet, New York Philharmonic). David Bernard and the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony regularly feature events where audiences sit with the musicians—called InsideOut Concerts—an approach developed by Bernard to build classical music audiences. Carnegie Hall ( ) is a concert venue in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. The American Prize
The American Prize is a set of annual nonprofit national competitions in the performing arts which recognizes and rewards commercial and noncommercial recorded performances of classical music in the United States based on submitted applications. There is no live competition. The award is bestowed at professional, college/university, community, and high school levels in a number of areas including composition, piano, voice, chamber music, conducting, and ensemble performance. The jury consists of well known performing artists in each area, with the conductor and composer David Katz serving as chief judge. Artists and ensembles self-nominate through an application process or are nominated by a teacher, parent, board member or colleague. David Chan
David Chan is an American violinist, conductor, and a concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He is one of the most sought-after violinists of his generation. He is a prizewinner at the International Tchaikovsky Competition, the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, among many others. Carter Brey
Carter Brey (born 1954) is an American cello virtuoso. He had a prolific solo career from 1981 until 1996 when he became the principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic, a position he still holds today. Biography Carter Brey was born in Montclair, New Jersey and grew up in Westchester County, New York. He began playing the violin at age 9 and the cello at age 12 in school, although he did not seriously consider becoming a professional musician until he was 16. He studied under Laurence Lesser and Stephen Kates at Johns Hopkins University's Peabody Institute and later with Aldo Parisot at Yale University, where he was a Wardell Fellow and a Houpt Scholar. Anthony McGill (musician)
Anthony McGill (born July 17, 1979) is the principal clarinetist for the New York Philharmonic, after having served for a decade as principal clarinet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Biography McGill is originally from Chicago, Illinois, growing up in the city's Chatham neighborhood. He attended the Interlochen Arts Academy, the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, and is an instructor at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University and the Mannes College of Music.
