Paris (The Cure Album)
''Paris'' is a live album recorded by The Cure at Le Zénith de Paris, in October 1992 during their ''Wish'' tour, but released in October 1993. The band announced the album in July 1993. ''Paris'' was released at the same time as '' Show'', which was recorded in the United States. The album features more cult classics like "The Figurehead" and "One Hundred Years" than ''Show'', which is generally more single-friendly. 50% of the royalties earned by the album were given to the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement charities in support of their international relief work. In mid-1996, ''Billboard'' reported that ''Paris'' had sold 95,000 copies in the United States by that point, much less than the 213,000 copies of ''Show'' sold there by the same point. The magazine described the release of the album "within a few weeks" of ''Show'' as exemplifying the "unorthodox career path" that the band had taken. Michele Kirsch of '' Vox'' praised the album's "top shelf sound engineers" a ...

The Cure
The Cure are an English Rock music, rock band formed in 1978 in Crawley, Crawley, West Sussex. Throughout numerous lineup changes since the band's formation, guitarist, lead vocalist, and songwriter Robert Smith (musician), Robert Smith has remained the only constant member. The band's debut album, ''Three Imaginary Boys'' (1979), along with several early singles, placed the band in the post-punk and New wave music, new wave movements that had sprung up in the United Kingdom. Beginning with their second album, ''Seventeen Seconds'' (1980), the band adopted a new, increasingly dark and tormented style, which, together with Smith's stage look, had a strong influence on the emerging genre of gothic rock as well as gothic subculture, the subculture that eventually formed around the genre. After the release of the band's fourth album, ''Pornography (album), Pornography'' (1982), Smith introduced a greater Pop music, pop sensibility into the band's music, and they subsequently garner ...

Pornography (album)
''Pornography'' is the fourth studio album by English Gothic rock band The Cure, released on 3 May 1982 by Fiction Records. Preceded by the non-album single " Charlotte Sometimes", it was the band's first album with new producer Phil Thornalley, and was recorded at RAK Studios from January to April 1982. The sessions saw the band on the brink of collapse, with heavy drug use, band in-fighting, and frontman Robert Smith's depression fueling the album's musical and lyrical content. ''Pornography'' represents the conclusion of the Cure's early dark, gloomy musical phase, which began with their second album ''Seventeen Seconds'' (1980). Following its release, bassist Simon Gallup left the band, and the Cure switched to a much brighter and more radio-friendly new wave sound. Although it was poorly received by critics at the time of release, ''Pornography'' was the Cure's most popular album to date, reaching number eight on the UK Albums Chart. It has since gone on to gain acclai ...

A Letter To Elise
"A Letter to Elise" is a song by English rock band the Cure, released as the third and final single from the album ''Wish'' on 5 October 1992. In 2010, ''Pitchfork Media'' ranked it at number 184 in their list of "The Top 200 Tracks of the 1990s". Background "A Letter to Elise" was made public for the first time on MTV's Cure-"Unplugged" show in 1991 and had very different lyrics from the later version to be released as a 7". Letters to Felice by Kafka was a huge influence when Robert Smith wrote the lyrics of the track. The B-side "The Big Hand" was planned as an A-side single early in 1993 but the idea was scrapped, largely due to Boris Williams not wanting the track to appear on the album but having no qualms about it appearing as a B-side (from KROQ radio interview with the band in 1992). "The Big Hand" is one of the few B-sides to be played live, although very rarely. It was first played in 1991, performed a few times during the Wish Tour in 1992, then revived at the Ult ...

Disintegration (The Cure Album)
''Disintegration'' is the eighth studio album by English rock band the Cure, released on 2 May 1989 by Fiction Records. The record marks a return to the introspective gothic rock style the band had established in the early 1980s. As he neared the age of 30, vocalist and guitarist Robert Smith had felt an increased pressure to follow up on the band's pop successes with a more enduring work. This, coupled with a distaste for the group's newfound popularity, caused Smith to lapse back into the use of hallucinogenic drugs, the effects of which had a strong influence on the production of the album. The band recorded the album at Hookend Recording Studios in Checkendon, Oxfordshire, with co-producer David M. Allen from late 1988 to early 1989. Following the completion of the mixing, founding member Lol Tolhurst was fired from the band. The album became the band's first commercial peak, charting at number three in the United Kingdom and at number 12 in the United States, and produ ...
