A parent-controlled school is a type of private school in which significant power is vested in the parents of students, usually through an association. Many parent-controlled schools are Christian schools, but do not usually have a denominational affiliation. Calvin Christian School is a coeducational, private Kindergarten to Year 12 Christian school located 12 kilometres south of Hobart, Tasmania in Kingston. It is part of Christian Schools Tasmania, a network of four schools around Hobart. It is owned and managed by an association, whose members are parents and past parents of students. An alternative school is an educational establishment with a curriculum and methods that are nontraditional.
