Allysa Seely
Allysa Seely (born January 4, 1989) is an American paratriathlete and gold medalist at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Paralympics. Background Seely was born on January 4, 1989. She grew up in Glendale, Arizona and graduated from Mountain Ridge High School in 2007. She attended Arizona State University afterwards. In September 2008 Seely raced her first triathlon as part of a group that raises money for cancer research and then joined the Arizona State University triathlon team. In 2010 Seely was diagnosed with Chiari II malformation, basilar invagination, and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. In August, 2013, her left leg was amputated below the knee. In 2020 Seely was diagnosed with endocarditis as well as a blood clot in her heart. Sports career Seely was nationally ranked in the triathlon prior to her diagnoses and amputation. Veronica Yoko Plebani
Veronica Yoko Plebani (born 1 March 1996) is an Italian Paralympic athlete who has competed in snowboarding, paracanoeing and paratriathlon. She competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, in Paratriathlon, Women's PTS2, winning a bronze medal. Biography Plebani was born in Gavardo, in the province of Brescia, on 1 March 1996 and residing in Palazzolo sull'Oglio. Since childhood she has practiced numerous sports such as dance, gymnastics, athletics and snowboarding. On 27 April 2011, Plebani contracted meningitis, which she survived with the loss of the phalanges of the hands and toes. In November 2011, just out of the hospital, she participated in the 5k the day before the New York City Marathon crossing the finish line with 28 runners of the Monza Marathon Team. Paratriathlon At The 2020 Summer Paralympics
Paratriathlon at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, took place at the Odaiba Marine Park. It was the second time that paratriathlon was be scheduled in the Paralympics. Eight events were contested (four events for men and women each); two more events than previously contested at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. The race course consisted of a 750m swim, 20 km bike ride and 5 km run, the swimming part of the race took place at the Odaiba Bay while the cycling and running courses traveled through the West Promenade district of Odaiba, featuring waterfalls and public gardens. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They kept the 2020 name and were held from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Paratriathlon Classification
Paratriathlon classification is the classification system for athletes participating in paratriathlon. It is governed by the World Triathlon (formerly known as ITU) The sport has been included in the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Classification system from 2017 World Triathlon has implemented some modifications to the classification system that was introduced in 2014 after further research was conducted to address certain aspects of the previous system. The research project is an ongoing project for both physical and vision impairments. Paratriathlon groups athletes into nine sport classes, based on three types of impairment, that compete in six medal events.
