Paraone Reweti
Paraone Brown Reweti (17 November 1916 – 21 April 1996) was a New Zealand politician and Rātana morehu. Early life Of Ngāti Ranginui ancestry, Reweti came to Parliament from a position as an executive member of the Mount Maunganui Watersiders' Union. Political career Reweti won the Eastern Maori electorate for Labour, in the following the death of Puti Tipene Watene. He held the electorate until 1981, when he retired. From 1973 to 1975, during the Third Labour Government, he was chairman of the parliamentary Māori Affairs Committee. In January 1976 he was appointed by Labour leader Bill Rowling as Shadow Minister of Marine. Eastern Maori
Eastern Maori was one of New Zealand's four original parliamentary Māori electorates established in 1868, along with Northern Maori, Western Maori and Southern Maori. In 1996, with the introduction of MMP, the Maori electorates were updated, and Eastern Maori was replaced with the Te Tai Rawhiti and Te Puku O Te Whenua electorates. Population centres The electorate included the population centres of Kawerau, Opotiki, Rotorua and Whakatane. Tribal areas The electorate included the tribal areas of Ngāti Awa, Te Arawa, Ngāi Tai, Te Whakatōhea and Ngāti Porou. History Eastern Maori included Rotorua and the Bay of Plenty, and the Poverty Bay area down to Gisborne. Queen's Service Order
The Queen's Service Order, established by royal warrant of Queen Elizabeth II on 13 March 1975, is used to recognise "valuable voluntary service to the community or meritorious and faithful services to the Crown or similar services within the public sector, whether in elected or appointed office". This order was created after a review of New Zealand's honours system in 1974. The Queen's Service Order replaced the Imperial Service Order in New Zealand. Ngāti Ranginui People
Iwi () are the largest social units in New Zealand Māori society. In Māori roughly means "people" or "nation", and is often translated as "tribe", or "a confederation of tribes". The word is both singular and plural in the Māori language, and is typically pluralised as such in English. groups trace their ancestry to the original Polynesian migrants who, according to tradition, arrived from Hawaiki.
