The Paraguay national basketball team is the team governed by the Paraguayan Basketball Federation ( es, link=no, Confederación Paraguaya de Basquetbol) that represents Paraguay in the men's international basketball competitions organized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The best achievements by the Paraguay men's national basketball team are the two second-places finishes in the FIBA South America Basketball Championship, in 1955 and 1960. The Paraguayan Basketball Federation (in Spanish: ''Confederación Paraguaya de Básquetbol'') is the governing body of basketball in Paraguay. The PBF organizes male and female competitions for both the National League (for teams outside of Asunción) and the Metropolitan League (only for teams from Asunción), and runs the Paraguay national basketball team. 2011 FIBA Americas Championship
The 2011 FIBA Americas Championship for Men, later known as the FIBA AmeriCup, was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Americas, at the 2012 Summer Olympics men's basketball tournament, in London. This FIBA AmeriCup tournament was held in Mar del Plata, Argentina, from August 30 to September 11, 2011. Argentina won the title, defeating Brazil, 80–75, in the final match. This was the country's second AmeriCup championship. Host FIBA Americas named Mar del Plata, Argentina the host of the 2011 competition on May 24, 2010 at a meeting in San Juan. Games were played at Polideportivo Islas Malvinas, which seats more than 8,000 fans. Toronto and Rio de Janeiro also bid for the tournament before FIBA awarded the competition to then world number-one ranked Argentina. The 1989 Tournament of the Americas, later known as the FIBA Americas Championship and the FIBA AmeriCup, was a basketball championship hosted by Mexico from June 8 to June 18, 1989.
