Paraguay Davis Cup Team
The Paraguay national tennis team represents Paraguay in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Asociación Paraguaya de Tenis. Paraguay currently compete in Group II of the Americas Zone. They have played in the World Group on seven occasions, reaching the quarter finals four times. History Paraguay competed in its first Davis Cup in 1931. Their best result was reaching the World Group quarterfinals on four occasions, 1983–85 and 1987. Three of those ties went down to the deciding rubber. Last tie Paraguay lost to Barbados, and Mexico in the 2017 Davis Cup Americas Zone Group II, and was relegated to the 2018 Davis Cup Americas Zone Group III. Next tie Paraguay will play in the Group III of the Americas Zone in 2018. 1931 Davis Cup
The 1931 International Lawn Tennis Challenge was the 26th edition of what is now known as the Davis Cup. Due to an increase in South American entries, the America Zone was split into the North & Central America Zone and the South America Zone, with the winner of each sub-zone playing to determine who moved to the Inter-Zonal round. 22 teams would enter the Europe Zone, while 8 would enter the America Zone. These included first-time entries from Brazil Davis Cup team, Brazil, Paraguay Davis Cup team, Paraguay and Uruguay Davis Cup team, Uruguay, although Brazil withdrew without playing a tie, and Paraguay would not play in the Davis Cup again until 1982. This year also marked the first time that ties were played in South America. 2017 Davis Cup Americas Zone Group II
The Americas Zone is one of the three zones of the regional Davis Cup competition in 2017. In the Americas Zone there are three different tiers, called groups, in which teams compete against each other to advance to the upper tier. Winners in Group II advance to the Americas Zone Group I. Teams who lose their respective ties will compete in the relegation play-offs, with winning teams remaining in Group II, whereas teams who lose their play-offs will be relegated to the Americas Zone Group III in 2018. The Paraguay Billie Jean King Cup team represents Paraguay in the Billie Jean King Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Asociación Paraguaya de Tenis. Paraguay competed in Americas Zone Group I in 2016 - its ninth consecutive year at this level. Ramón Delgado (; born 14 November 1976) is a Paraguayan retired tennis player and current tennis coach. He turned professional in 1995 and achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 52 in April 1999. He reached the final at Bogotá in 1998 and the fourth round of the 1998 French Open, defeating Pete Sampras in the second round. Tennis career 2002 In April 2002, Delgado lost in the first round of the Mallorca Open to a 15-year-old Rafael Nadal in Nadal's first ever ATP match.
