Paquetville is an unincorporated community in Gloucester County, New Brunswick, Canada. It held village status prior to 2023. It is on the Acadian Peninsula at the intersection of Route 340, Route 135 and Route 350. History Paquetville was founded by Monseigneur Paquet in 1873, who brought several parishioners with him from Shippagan. On 1 January 2023, Paquetville amalgamated with the village of Saint-Isidore and all or part of six local service districts to form the new town of Hautes-Terres. The community's name remains in official use. Paquetville is a civil parish in Gloucester County, New Brunswick, Canada. For governance purposes, is its divided between the towns of Hautes-Terres and Rivière-du-Nord, the regional municipality of Tracadie, and the Chaleur rural district. The municipalities are members of the Acadian Peninsula Regional Service Commission, while the rural district is a member of the Chaleur RSC. Origin of name The parish may have been named in honour of Joseph-Marie Paquet, a priest influential in New Brunswick church politics and parish priest at Caraquet for two decades before his death in 1869. History Paquetville was erected in 1897 from Caraquet Parish. In 1903 the spelling was changed to Pacquetville then changed back in 1941. Route 340 is a long, mainly east/west secondary highway in the north-eastern portion of New Brunswick, Canada. The route's western terminus is in the community of Janeville. The road travels south-east to the community of Canobie. Passing the community, the highway takes a 90 degree turn south passing the community of Canobie South. The highway takes a 45 degree turn and travels to the community of Rocheville before taking another turn south then another turn east going towards Notre-Dame-des-Erables, Haut-Paquetville, and eventually Paquetville. Acadie—Bathurst (formerly Gloucester) is a federal electoral district in New Brunswick, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1867. Until 1997, the riding was largely held by the Liberal Party thanks to strong support from the francophone Acadian population. There is also a notable Red Tory tendency in the riding that enabled the former Progressive Conservative Party to win on occasion. Saint-Isidore is a community in Gloucester County, New Brunswick, Canada. It held village status prior to 2023. It is adjacent to the communities of Pont-Landry, Hacheyville, Bois-Gagnon and Tilley Road. The community is situated on the Acadian Peninsula. Saint-Isidore is in the town of Tracadie-Sheila's sphere of influence. With the population being Acadian, almost all of its inhabitants speak French as a mother tongue and are of the Catholic religion. Édith Butler (born Marie Nicole Butler, 27 July 1942) is an Acadian-Canadian singer-songwriter and folklorist of from New Brunswick’s Acadian Peninsula. Biography Édith Butler was born in Paquetville on the Acadian Peninsula in Gloucester County, New Brunswick. During the 1960s she obtained a Bachelor of Arts, taught school, and then earned a Master’s degree in literature and traditional ethnography at Laval University in 1969.
