Paquera
Paquera is a district of the Puntarenas canton, in the Puntarenas province of Costa Rica. History During the colonial period the entire Nicoya peninsula was administratively part of the Partido de Nicoya (nowadays Guanacaste), it was at the beginning of the 20th century that President Alfredo González Flores signed a decree that transferred the administration of Lepanto along with Paquera and Cóbano (towns in the extreme south of the Nicoya peninsula) to the province of Puntarenas. This was due to the fact that at that time it was faster to reach Paquera by sea by boat from Puntarenas, than by the existing land routes to Nicoya. At present there is a certain political impulse in Guanacaste to administratively reincorporate the entire Nicoya peninsula into the province of Guanacaste, arguing that the Inter-American Highway allows rapid land communication with Guanacaste, in addition they argue that the word Guanacaste is internationally associated with tourism Tourism i ... National Route 160 (Costa Rica)
National Secondary Route 160, or just Route 160 ( es, Ruta Nacional Secundaria 160, or ) is a National Road Route of Costa Rica, located in the Guanacaste, Puntarenas provinces. The road is between Naranjo ferry terminal and Route 21 in Nicoya peninsula, and again with Route 21 at Santa Cruz, Guanacaste. Description A mostly gravel road, it approximately follows the coastline of southern section of the Nicoya Peninsula. It starts at the end of Route 21 at the Naranjo ferry terminal, and goes south to the Paquera ferry terminal, this section is paved. From there it turns west and goes near the beach and airport of Tambor and then the town of Cóbano. The northwest bound segment of the road from here to Puerto Carrillo can only be driven in the dry season, and only with off-road capable vehicles. Nicoya Peninsula
The Nicoya Peninsula () is a peninsula on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. It is divided into two provinces: Guanacaste Province in the north, and the Puntarenas Province in the south. It is located at . It varies from 19 to wide and is approximately long, forming the largest peninsula in the country. It is known for its beaches and is a popular tourist destination. The main transport and commercial centre in the region is Nicoya, one of the oldest settlements in Costa Rica. Ferries run between the town of Puntarenas on the mainland and the Nicoya Peninsula.
