''Pao'' is a genus of mostly freshwater pufferfish with one species (''P. leiurus'') also occurring in brackish water. They are found in Southeast Asia. Pao Abei
''Pao abei'' is a species of freshwater pufferfish from the Mekong, Chao Phraya and Mae Klong river basins in Southeast Asia. It is named after Japanese ichthyologist Tokiharu Abe. They are molluscivores, using the beak-like teeth to break open the shell of the prey. They are also opportunistic piscivores. Maximum length is SL. Numerous pale spots are uniformly distributed over a dark background. The spots are orange in certain live specimens. Jacques Pellegrin
Jacques Pellegrin (12 June 1873, Paris – 12 August 1944) was a French zoologist. In Paris, he worked under zoologist Léon Vaillant (chair of reptiles and fishes) at the ''Muséum national d'histoire naturelle''. From 1897, Pellegrin served as ''préparateur'' at the museum. He obtained doctorates in medicine (1899) and science (1904), and in 1908 was named as an assistant director. After many missions abroad, he became sub-director of the museum in 1937, and replaced Louis Roule (1861–1942) as the chairperson of herpetology and ichthyology. He published over 600 scientific books and articles and discovered around 350 new species. Franz Steindachner
Franz Steindachner (11 November 1834 in Vienna – 10 December 1919 in Vienna) was an Austrian Zoology, zoologist, ichthyologist, and herpetologist. He published over 200 papers on fishes and over 50 papers on reptiles and amphibians. Steindachner described hundreds of new species of fish and dozens of new amphibians and reptiles. At least seven species of reptile have been named after him. Work and career Being interested in natural history, Steindachner took up the study of fossil fishes on the recommendation of his friend Eduard Suess (1831–1914). In 1860 he was appointed to the position of director of the fish collection at the Naturhistorisches Museum, a position which had remained vacant since the death of Johann Jakob Heckel (1790–1857). Paul Chabanaud (30 November 1876, in Versailles – 27 February 1959) was a French ichthyologist and herpetologist. Beginning in 1915, he worked as a volunteer under zoologist Louis Roule at the ''Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle'' in Paris. In 1919–1920, he undertook a scientific expedition to French West Africa (Senegal, Guinea) on behalf of the museum, during which he collected thousands of zoological specimens. Following his return to Paris, he served as a preparator in the laboratory of biologist Jean Abel Gruvel at the museum.
