German Tanks In World War II
Nazi Germany developed numerous tank designs used in World War II. In addition to domestic designs, Germany also used various captured and foreign-built tanks. German tanks were an important part of the Wehrmacht and played a fundamental role during the whole war, and especially in the blitzkrieg battle strategy. In the subsequent more troubled and prolonged campaigns, German tanks proved to be adaptable and efficient adversaries to the Allies. When the Allied forces technically managed to surpass the earlier German tanks in battle, they still had to face the experience and skills of the German tank crews and most powerful and technologically advanced later tanks, such as the Panther, the Tiger I and Tiger II, which had the reputation of being fearsome opponents. Panzer (video Game)
Panther, a battle tank-driving simulation named after the Panther tank, was one of a handful of early first-person computer games developed by John Edo Haefeli and Nelson Bridwell in 1975 at Northwestern University. The game was developed for the multi-user interactive computer-based education PLATO system and programmed in the TUTOR programming language and utilized scalable vector graphics called linesets. A 1977 development of Panther, with more refined graphics, was named Panzer, the German word for armour and tank. Nelson contributed the original concept of a tank combat game, which was inspired by Brand Fortner's Airfight, Jim Bowery's Spasim, and an unfinished tank game effort of Derek Ward. Nelson also provided the Panther tank artwork, the vehicle motion, view, and damage equations, and a significant fraction of the original code. ''Panzer'', subtitled "A Tactical Game of Armored Combat on the Eastern Front, 1941-1945", is a board wargame published by Yaquinto Publications in 1979 that simulates Eastern Front combat between Axis forces and the Soviet Union during World War II. A version was released by Excalibre Games in 1993. Description ''Panzer'' is a two-player board wargame in which one player controls Axis forces and the other player controls Soviet forces. Components The game comes with an illustrated 32-page rulebook and 49 data cards describing all relevant combat information about every tank, vehicle, artillery unit and infantry unit in the game. Panzer is a Chilean heavy metal band formed in 1987. History Panzer debuted in 1987 after its contributions to the compilation ''Infierno Rock''. In 1988, the band was elected by peers and journalists as the best Chilean rock group, a title it held for two consecutive years. This coincided with the release of their first album ''Metal Land'' in 1988, followed by its 1989 Latin American re-release in an attempt to establish the band in other Spanish-speaking markets. In 1989, Panzer appeared in ''Latinos y Metálicos'', a compilation of heavy metal from Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and Spain. Panzer AG is the name of an aggrotech/industrial rock side-project by Norwegian Andy LaPlegua, the founder of futurepop band Icon of Coil. Formed in 2004, Panzer AG's sound combines Power noise, Industrial, Trance, Rock and other genres to create a caustic but danceable form of music. History After experimenting with a variety of music styles, such as Futurepop with Icon of Coil, as well as aggrotech, power noise and industrial with Combichrist, LaPlegua furthered his sound by increasing the aggressiveness of both his lyrical content and his music.
